Possible help for first time buyers?

Ok, getting just a tad pissed off now. Just had a call from the co-op, seems they made a mistake on my application form and weren't treating me as a FTB. They have decided that as I am a FTB (and had to be to use this scheme), they don't want to lend me the money! Because its gone over the 90 days (I needed an extension of 2 weeks cos of problems) they re-evaluated my application and spotted their mistake. So I've had 3 months of stress and costs trying to sort all this out, only to be told they should never have told me to go for the house anyway. I am now waiting on a call back to see if they can sort anything out.

Unfortunately I have no idea who at the co-op to gun down. I can go after the solicitor involved for dragging everything out I suppose. Should any particularily gruesome murder happen in the next few days there is a good chance I found out who stole my bike...

oh tek, i just dont even know what to say, i really feel for you.

it would appear the fault lies with the co-op, they didnt check the application properly to start with....but they may throw the whole policy thing at you if you get them to honour the mistake they made.

has your solicitor given any form of response to this news?

i would seriously consider checking some of the consumer rights websites to see if theres any precedents you can throw at them, or even speaking to CAB.

good luck, which ever direction you take this.

They have agreed I wouldn't have gone ahead if they hadn't screwed up, and seem to think I could get costs back that have been directly incurred because of this. Doesn't get me the house though! If this had gone through in the initial 3 month period it would have been fine, its only because of the extension they noticed. Apparently if I didn't have my loan I'd pass it, but they knew about that to start with!

Am seriously pissed off now, things had just got moving again too :(

Until the mortgage offer is in the hands of my solicitor, I'm sceptical. Its looking much better than yesterday though!

You can file a complaint with the managing director of the firm regarding the delays from your solicitor and the lack of knowledge that the original solicitor was leaving and they should lower your fees.

Good luck.

Hmm, just called the co-op to see where this document is. Seems it isn't. Its with the underwriters now, and I can expect their decision later today. Decision? They said it was sorted!

Cheers man. Looks OK now, it was all just waiting on the mortgage. My solicitor is looking over it at the min, just to be sure there are no suprises, then I can give my notice in on the current gaff.
