My wife drives down Corporation Street every day and then in to St George's Hospital and the roads round there are terrible. Had to have another new tyre today - must be the potholed roads causing it!
Same here. Down coporation street (from the prison end) and into St Georges. The pot holes just by the first road block thing are a total nightmare in my car! sorry if i hold anyone up! I have to go slowly over them!

It looks like we have Corporation St versus Newport Rd. I think both are extremly dangerous. I thought something would have been done by now but i guess its a call to SBC tomorrow.

Roads are County, not Borough Council...

It was supposed to have started already but it's been delayed for a month due to a) lack of publicity and b) the pre-general election 'County Council can't show favourites' period.

Enjoying a drop of red.
The number of potholes on the roads in and around Stafford is getting rediculous. Yesterday driving along Rickerscote Road there was an almighty bang when my car dropped into one I hadn't seen at the junction with Merrivale Road, which wrecked my tyre (but mercifully not the wheel).

I would urge anyone who spots potholes to report them via www.fixmystreet.com

They will forward your report to the relevant authority immediately. There is then a public record that the problem has been reported, so that if anyone suffers damage as a result later on there is the evidence that the council new about the problem but were negligent in not fixing it.

Good post. I will certainly be using that link as I've suffered the same problem.
A contributory cause of the holes is no doubt down to the recent cold weather - but we pay through the nose for these problems to be fixed - so they should be without delay imo.

You know, you can report direct to SCC here without the middleman and get a reference number you can follow up:

http://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/transport/staffshighways/contact/contact.htm

I do it myself on a regular basis.

Yep but then it's not in the public domain so if they do nothing and someone wrecks a wheel as a result they have no evidence on which to fall back on if they need to make a claim.

It is public domain, as you could just bung in a Freedom of Information request. In the long term all the claiming for everything compensation culture does is put everyones insurance premiums up and claiming from council/NHS/other public body just means less money to spend on services (or ironically, in theory less to fill potholes...)

Wasn't it reported a while ago that half of all spending on road and pavement maintenance in Manchester was on compensation claims?

Putting in a FOI request is hardly as simple as looking something up on a publicly accessible website. And as for compensation culture, I would normally agree but we pay so much as motorists in taxes that if the local councils can't be bothered to fix the roads properly and my wheels get damaged as a result then why shouldnt I be compensated?!!

Feel so strongly about this subject it even prompted me to stop lurking in the shadows an actually sign up :)
