Pot holes in roads

Couple pot holes in East Gate Street right outside the police station I know they are a problem for motorists but they are dangerous for pedestrians crossing the road too

Well tell them to get an allotment if you see them doing it again.

Up my way this thread would be entitled "bits of road around potholes" . Damned flooding!

Had an email through a few days ago with advance warning of the stretch between Castle Street and Broad Eye being closed for resurfacing between 7pm and 7am from 17 - 19th March. Walk that stretch in daylight and you see how bad the surface is.
Recommended diversion during these hours will be via Derrington.

That possibly explains the multicoloured paint marks currently all over the road down there - it is pretty bad on that stretch

Went round Queenway again today. Successfully managed to avoid the potholes because I was following Henryscat :heyhey: *

Seriously though, it's getting a bit dangerous with the lumps of debris which have come out of the road to form the potholes now littering the carriageway.

Surely Highways employees can see these things when driving round there so why don't they move the stuff?

There's some big lumps of tarmac around, particularly on the middle roundabout, where North Walls joins the Queensway.

Avoid fixmystreet it does not go anywhere, more that report it to scc the better but by phone takes their call centre forever to process emails.

Utterly wrong advice I'm afraid.

Use fixmystreet and it is reported by email to the highways department of SCC automatically. It is also in the public domain so cannot be swept under the carpet by a council trying to wriggle out of a claim. The fact that the council may not be competent enough to check their emails and act upon them promptly is their problem. It's not exactly difficult to sift through emails is it.

It needs to be in the public domain as the council has an obligation to act upon a dangerous pothole within a certain amount of time of being notified of it (this does not include any delay on there part for not reading the email in the first place). That way, if some poor sod is hurt or suffers serious financial loss as a result of the council not getting it sorted in a timely fashion then the information is out there to use for legal redress.

If a hole is contained within a section of road that is marked for bicycles do the standard rules still apply for timely attendance? There is a nice hole forming on the westbound Tixall Road near Avon Rise.

Proactive is bang on. I have used fixmystreet many times (see my sig below) and every time I get an automated response from the council thanking me for reporting it. The other beauty is you don't need to know which council to report it to if you aren't sure, fixmystreet works it out.

Jeez - just been down Corporation Street. It seems to be a case of spot the decent piece of tarmac. The speed humps are also crumbling especially at the sides and they also have potholes round them.

That is exactly the advice I would give if I worked in the County Council complaints department

No history of notification, no liability

I have used fixed my street on 2 seperate occasions when i queried with them why scc and stoke cc never had report they blamed a map fault so the report never went anywhere.
Go direct to scc and they give you a report number straight that sticks until fixed.
Councils also go and assess pot holes first if its a new one before they categorise 1 to4. While they give a 28 day timeframe on a category3 DfT guidlines state the timeframe success is not illegal and good luck with a cat 4.

You are missing the point I think. Perhaps deliberately?

It doesn't need to be in the public domain at all, you saying all reports direct to scc disappear, I think some maybe obssessed with conspiracy theories.
Im not a great fan of councils and they will prioritise the most urgent and get to the rest as they can or if they have the money.
Some councils are thinking of taking some roads off the network as there is no money to fix them.

My point being in 4 reports to scc secret faults 3 have been fixed the other would be fixed when theres is money to do so, via fms well it did not even leave them.

My point being why one would wait a week for a email to be processed, whether it meets timreframe or not itI does not matter even if in the public domain. Call in so its in system immediately so gets fixed which surely is the point of all points not one up manship.

The public shouldn't have to wait that long for an email to be processed. It is incompetence on the part of the council and they need to address it. It doesn't exactly inspire confidence regarding the way they handle the whole roads issue does it?

Separately, or Additionally

It should also be said and re said that Cameron has massively cut funds to councils

At least a large proportion of venom should be headng his way
