Tequila Red, which used to be a pub and now stands empty, is going to be re-opening as a Titanic pub and they hope to have this open by mid May, I think.
I've just gone past the Sun and noticed that there is some activity, at last. The chaps that I saw looked like the sort that will actually do something, rather than just show pieces of paper to each other. The drawings that were visible on the table in the window were difficult to decipher in the glare of the sunlight - sorry. We'll see what happens from here, but it doesn't look like a mid-May finish at this stage...

I noticed this morning the the bookie's shop where Bowen's used to be is now empty, but you can still claim any winnings from Betfred, should you have anything outstanding..

I think you have to go through a claim process as my Dad had a winning bet on Villa's final league position with Oakfields.

As I posted on another thread - We wore Titanic t-shirts for the Rangers Festival and on the back of them it said "Re-opening July"

I think it was also Dr Watwood's attempt at bringing his Greek holiday meal to the A518 too, some time ago

Not even noticed, but you're right. thing is <evil capitalist mode> if they were viable they'd still be here. They only died out because you didn't use them enough. Nobody closes a business that generates profit, unless there is greater profit in closing. So its our faulth they're gone</evil capitalist mode>. Although much as I want to support our local merchants, I'm skint and work when they open :(
What killed Videoworld and the one near the market, was when Choices opened and just took everything. The annoying thing is that they then closed after 2 years. I think there's enough business in Stafford for an independent, but not a chain, but all the video shops went from charging a £1 per night, to nearly £4 per night, when you can buy the thing for not much more in a supermarket.

I have recently been asked about Terry Blood's record shop. Somewhere near where Tandy's was, opposite Oxfam, but I have only the vaguest of memories of it. Does anybody have a better recollection?.

Male Domain, which would have been opposite the current Costa Coffee, a great place to select a new tie and get your inside-leg measured at the same time...

i still miss booklands on the corner by the precint, no one has ever really done well in that shop since..
I had a traumatic experience in Booklands. Once, as I was leaving I spotted a woman with a push-chair who was clearly about to enter the premises. Being a gentleman, I put my arm back to hold the door open against the closing spring - but my hand went through the letter box flap, which, acting as a ratchet, made it impossible for me to remove my hand from the door. She acted with all the understanding that I have come to expect from women with push-chairs and decided that I was wilfully obstructing her. She barged past ( virtually through ) me and nearly ripped my arm from its socket..
