250,000th poster!
Sign on the A34, outside the old Jobcentre, promising ten weeks of roadworks, starting on February 11th.
Random as it was supposed to start at the begining of January & nothing seemed to happen . Are they still closing the Eccleshall Rd part & diverting traffic up the A34/Stone Road?

I have no idea*.

This makes it look like it will be a bit of a mess - it has it going on into late April.

Maybe we should use the Western Access Route instead?

Looks like this is it: https://portal.roadworks.org/downloads/tm/rg_road-closure-ttro-second-notice-112161204-3135022.pdf
NOTICE is hereby given that the Staffordshire County Council on 5 February 2019 made an Order the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding in the following lengths of:
  • A34 Stone Road; road closed one way in a northerly direction allowing traffic southbound only, for a distance of 200 metres from A34 Stone Road/A5013 Eccleshall Road roundabout,
  • A5013 Eccleshall Road; road closed one way in a north westerly direction for a distance of 200 metres from A34 Stone Road/A5013 Eccleshall Road roundabout allowing traffic to travel south-easterly only,
  • Greyfriars Way from its junction with A34 Greyfriars for a distance of 35 metres in a westerly direction,
  • A34 Stone Road, A34 Greyfriars and A5013 Eccleshall Road; full closures at night times from 20:00 hours to 06:00 hours all for a distance of 200 metres from A34 Stone Road/A5013 Eccleshall Road roundabout,
  • Rowley Street; full closures at night times from 20:00 hours to 06:00 hours for a distance of 50 metres from A34 Greyfriars roundabout,
unless the vehicle is being used in connection with the works. Limited access will be available for frontages, police, fire brigade or ambulance purposes.

This order will also prohibit parking on A5013 Eccleshall Road; from the McDonalds access for a distance of 100 metres in a north westerly direction, on both sides of the carriageway.

This order will also suspend the one-way order on Rowley Street and Fancy Walk.

Alternative routes for traffic will be signed on site. For more information, visit: https://roadworks.org?tm=112161204.

The order will come into operation on 11 February 2019 and the said works will commence on or as near as practicable to that date. It is anticipated that the works will be completed by 21 April 2019. Exact dates and phasing for each closure will be communicated to residents and businesses and signed on site.

This better not turn my quiet narrow residential road in to a rat run for speeding inconsiderate wank*ers who have no regard for children playing and residents and whose only concern is speeding as fast as possible for their own selfish purposes :(

Enjoying a drop of red.

There's bugger all you can do about it if it does because, sure as night follows day, SCC Highways won't give a damn.

If they're happy for Rowley Street and Fancy Walk to be two-way, then I doubt that any other niceties will get much consideration.

I would happily avoid the place altogether, if they hadn't buggered up Beaconside...

It'll be fun when the motorway's stuffed.

if that not bad enough major roadworks start on beaconside again from February 4th to 8th March.

It's actually all my fault.

Sorry.

They are just trying to contain my activities. I used to do two/three days a week around Baswich/Weeping Cross/Wildwood, but I had to severely curtail that and eventually just stop, when the Siege of the South became almost total.

I now spend a bit of time out to the north-west of the town, but they're starting to close me down on that, I can barely sneak out through Marston and Whitgreave now, without getting a hundredweight of mud on the car, if I can even get across the Taylor-Wimpey queue on Beaconside.

you can travel towards Stafford but you can't leave. is the way I read it surely they wouldn't close the 2 main routes out of Stafford in a northerly direction at the same time would they? the diversion route around the road closure is via beaconside. at a time beaconside is scheduled to be reduced to alternate single line traffic due to roadworks there. it could get nasty out there.

Mmmm - I can't remember exactly what was going on, but there was a time, a few years ago, when my only practical way to the outside world was through Sandon - and they managed to close the canal bridge there a few days later, but some of the other routes had (accidentally?) reopened by then.

'Relax' said the Staffordian,
'We are programmed to receive.
You can check out any time you like,
But you can never leave!'

What are the roadworks for? What's happening for 10 weeks? Are they creating a pedestrian crossing across to the old job centre, to allow easier access to break windows? As you often see people risk their lives trying to cross there. Or, are they altering the roundabout? Or creating a burger roundabout? Or digging up the subway? Please enlighten me.

They're converting the subway into subterranean granny annexes for the luxurious job centre apartments.

Surely they could just reopen the old A34 - up the other side of the Waggon?

That used to be (nearly) adequate in the old days.

It's a comprehensive redesign to link existing cycleways together, cordoning off cycle routes from main traffic flows to make Stafford the most cycle-friendly town in England by the year 2020.
