I believed the roadworks sign on the 22nd, saying that roadworks would be completed by the 21st

That was a mistake.
It was a lie, although the roadworks at the roundabout are complete, they've just shifted the chaos of cones & roadworks a few feet down the road nearer to town...ssdd.

By now everyone will know that there's roadworks at the beginning of the Doxey Road, (coming from town), it can cause quite a backlog at certain times of the day. No-one seems to know The Highway Code. The roundabout into Sainsbugs is continously being blocked by drivers wanting to get that little bit further into their journey than that next person. Just sat and watched a queue form outside our house because no-one could turn into the carparks.
Are people really in that much of a hurry these days, or have driving test standards been altered?

The driving test standards have probably gone up since we did it, but driving standards on the road are definitely much lower.

I had to explain the meaning of flashing amber lights to someone a couple of years ago. He had noticed that the crossing at the Wolverhampton Road doctors' sometimes did it and he had "never seen it anywhere else before".

is that an argument to bring in mandatory every xx years retests?
or perhaps standards would increase if there were any traffic cops left?

I don't think the test is of any great relevance, lack of active enforcement is a far greater issue.

In the old days, coppers would drive in an exaggeratedly proper style, now they are little better than the average road user.

I don’t think it’s actually something that they actively test for, I only knew it from previous knowledge

The same thing happens on the Shire Horse roundabout, blocking cars who want to carry straight on Southbound, by cars queueing to get onto the A513 Sandon Road. The queue was nearly as far back as top of Yarlet Bank twice this week due to this continual lack of consideration of other road users.

Did you inform him about flashing amber lights on the crossings on the opposite side of the roundabout by PizzaGoGo, the three pedestrian crossings at the Gaol roundabout and the one next to the youth park on the way round to the train station? He obviously hasn't ventured far and wide. How can you not know about flashing amber lights at pelican crossings??

What's the traffic like up the north end (Eccleshall , Stone Road & J14 area) at the moment ? Are the roadworks and road closures still there or is it back to more or less normal now?
Heading up M6 north tomorrow morning and wondering whether going back to J13 would be the best bet instead of through town to J14.....

It's essentially what we seem to regard as 'normal'.

For a few weeks....

Cheers  (Want as smooth a journey as possible with being a passenger in sons car rather than driving. Usually :barf: within a few yards as a passenger, so didn't fancy too much of stop-start for hours before we even hit the motorway....)
