Do I need a reason? I don't go out of my way to drink the stuff; I just enjoy drinking it, boring as it might be. As regards the alternatives, I've had coconut milk since I was young, but wouldn't drink it out of choice, though I have used it in cooking (curries). And we bought a carton of Almond milk last year, but didn't like it .... so I don't see the need to ever buy that or similar milks again.

And Rice milk? That sounds a bit, well ..... boring.

ETA Let's just say that if dairy products were banned, I certainly wouldn't turn to drinking any of the milk substitutes on offer.

Two lads in the playground are playing and stop for a breather...
Dumb little lad: i tried an apple once and didn't like it.
Other little lad (eating an apple): uh i do like an apple
Dumb little lad: errrkkkk how funny
Other little lad: have you tried another variety of apple?
Dumb little lad: no, i thought all the other apples in the world sounded boring!
Other little lad: how about trying another type of fruit?
Dumb little lad: i just said din i, i tried an apple once and that was that, no fruit for me ta.
Other little lad: well done you.

But I think if you play the "environmental impact" card, you should at least acknowledge that many of the alternatives on offer involve flying stuff in from the other side of the world.

And "boring" is fine with me. I lived on tomato sandwiches and an apple every lunchtime for years in work - just a couple of bread rolls and a large tomato, sliced. So swede and carrots sounds fine. Hey, I might even treat myself by adding a potato and a parsnip. And don't even mention herbs .....
Oh bless.

I guess I'm a dumb little lad whose life doesn't revolve around food, and is perfectly happy with the foods he already eats.

Anyway, have you anything to add on the "environmental impact" thing? I notice you've avoided this issue.

Absolutely! Soya is most definitely not a wonderful green alternative to anything BUT us eating soya is far more efficient than feeding it to cows that are then fed to us........

It's just about being mindful, being aware and acting where you can, not about being perfect! If everyone did their bit to reduce the foods that had the most negative environemental and ethical impact we'd have a better world. Who could not want that?

What environmental impact "thing" are you trying to get me to discuss?

On another vein, anyone have any suggestions on the best place in Stafford to eat for 2 vegans please? preferably somewhere that actually understands veganism, not somewhere jumping on the bandwagon and then providing sweets full of bits of animal!! Ta

My favourite places to go (so far) in Stafford, for (dedicated) vegan options/menu;
Verso Lounge
Zizzi
The Swan
The Market Vaults (only one vegan burger so far)
The Bear Grill (choice of 3 but imo, only the Mexican burger worth considering)

I've assumed (possibly erroneously) that many of your milk alternatives use products not grown in this country, and that there would be some environmental impact associated with consuming these products. I know it was Kyoto that raised the issue, but I thought you might have a view (or do you just think it's OK to fly in stuff from all around the world just so you can have an alternative to boring old milk?).

Just a thought but, assuming such things exist, do vegan restaurants provide a non-vegan/veggie option in the same way that "meaty" restaurants provide vegan and veggie options?

Presumably not - in the same way as you'll find very few 'Indian' places that will do a pork curry.

There's that assuming thing you do so well, again.

When i order my groceries or go shopping or the way i live my life, i was unaware that you had access to all the details.

Where's your next warm up show taking place?

Serious question. You seem to take offense when "meaty" restaurants don't include a veggie or vegan option, but would vegan restaurants* cater for those who prefer some meat with their meals when they go there with their vegan friends?

* - assuming there is such a thing

If you think milk being boring is the reason so many people are drinking plant based 'milk's then you really do need to open your eyes. Very many vegans are so due to the horrific cruelty inflicted on dairy cows. It's nothing to do with fads about dairu milk being boring, it's about preventing massive amounts of cruelty.

I don't think milk is boring (personally, I love the stuff), and I only know of one other person who describes it as such.

Lots of info!

Thank you so much!

Lots of work to do tonight but will take them time to read and respond to all!

I don't think it should be too hard (hopefully!) I have a mainly vege and fruit based diet (between 10 - 15 a day) it's just the cheese I mix with vege that's the issue!

Plus I don't have a sweet tooth (I'm all about the crisps)

Nom nom I love talking about food! x

Thank you!

Is the available in most supermarkets or do I have to order online?

I've had it delivered by Sainsbury's but not sure they have it in Stafford store (haven't seen) as their deliveries come from Stoke I believe. Worth trying all the Sainsbury cheese substitutes, from what I've heard their own brand has been well received.

can highly recommend Ocado, but haven't a clue where they come from, plenty of vegan options on the site
