I've taken the liberty of taking a look at some stats, sure beats opinions.
This is interesting (IMO).

Shows that without intervention (whatever level of intervention that may be) there's every chance something that does need changing doesn't change. What i mean is; invention was needed, intervention was taken and this lead to a decline in smoking numbers.
This shows intervention equals decline.

I do agree intervention of some kind is always needed to influence/achieve any form of change and admire your conviction in something you are obviously very passionate about.

All I was trying to say was that shock/horror tactics don't work long term in my view.

I know statistics can be read in any way you want but it looks like the smoking rate actually went up for men when the larger health warnings were introduced.

I do occasionally eat vegetarian food and enjoy it but I'm not sure I would ever be persuaded to go vegetarian full time.

Do the pictures on cigarette packets ..... really work?
Staying off-piste, they certainly don't do any harm, though I think other ways are more effective. (Does the effect of pictures appearing on fag packets get shown on your graph?)

Whenever I pass a cigarette kiosk (usually in ASDA), I'm reminded of the Private Eye cartoon "Scenes You Seldom See" which shows someone standing at a kiosk looking at the packet they've just been handed and saying "Oh dear. It says on the packet that smoking these may be harmful to me and my family. I'd better not have these."

I'm sure we all do. Here's a photo I'd posted on another thread of one of my favourite vegetarian dishes, though I can't vouch for the bread and the beer.

I thought it was clear what i was trying to achieve, i guess i need to be more obvious to some.

Do the pictures on cigarette packets or the drink drive car crash clips really work? They do in my opinion, but then i don't know the stats.

How can you be totally against animal cruelty but still eat them? that doesn't make sense and isn't possible.
Clearly for you, the image i posted wasn't the one for you, they'll be one that is though. I was the same, i said so in my post, i'm not blaming you, there was images that i never took notice of and continued to eat animals, until one day an image got me, that's all.

Go and take another look, imagine if that were dogs or cats; or pandas; or meerkats; or orangutan on that hook, any of the classic fluffier types, still no shifting hopperman?

Thanks.

Re being against cruelty I suppose it depends on how you define cruelty to be honest. If an animal is humanely killed (assuming that is possible) then I'm ok eating it.

How do I edit this?
FWIW, as a lacto-ovo vegetarian of 15 years standing I'm not overly keen on the idea of this thread being filled with pictures of animal cruelty @1JKz. Apart from anything else I don't think the committed carnivores check into this thread very often so all it's likely to do is put those of us who are already converts off our falafel wraps.

There was a time on the forum when asking something like "Does anyone know where I can buy firm tofu?" would inevitably lead to a 25 page flame war between @shoes & @Lunar Scorpion about the rights & wrongs of eating meat & I'd much rather continue the new mood where people share useful things like recipes & menus than start all that again...

You don't care that it has suffered it's whole short miserable life so long as it is killed humanely?

How do you define cruelty? i usually go by the meaning of the word.

"Humanely" was a word concocted by the animal meat and dairy trade to coerce people into thinking it was perfectly OK to kill then eat an animal. It's a nonsense phrase. So, not that isn't possible. I believed it too, the whole humanely thing, i was one of those that would often find myself thinking; well if the animals enjoyed its little life (no matter how short) then i'm fine with eating its bits, i was slowly exposed to what their little lives consisted of and it wasn't pretty or fun, i was hiding the facts from myself happy in planet oblivious and a massive fan of blissful ignorance!

Can you kill a human humanely? Nope.
OK, for us there's (if agreed to) euthanasia/assisted suicide but that's for those that get to have a say in their own lives!

Cmon hopperman!!

I'll drop it now, looks like this man's not for turning ...yet!

It tastes a bit like coconut ice cream. The coffee taste isn't obvious, you could have it as a hot milk.

I got the same buzz as i did back then.

Hey, a man can do what he likes in his own house!

I worked on a farm from when I was 10 until I was 21 so I know the animals on that farm ( and others using the same farming methodologies) were treated well and did not have a miserable life, hence my statement.
