Personally been into Beargrills a few times now, and I have to say on the whole, great food and good prices and nice environment, it was pretty much our favorite place to go. One the whole the staff are good although sometimes you do get missed if your not on a table in their direct line of sight (we waited 1hr to be asked if we wanted dessert last time), regular table checks would help this.

wrote a post on page 2 about the last time I went in Decemeber, went tonight so here's another quick review:
- staff fantastic as usual, couldn't be more helpful, very well mannered, courteous etc.
- food absolutely great, really good value
I think it's a really nice place to go, so just wanted to give it another thumbs up!

On Friday evening a group of 5 of us went to the Bear Grill for a meal. I've had a few really nice meals there before and the service is always good. One of our party had never been before and we had all been telling him how good the meals are so we were really disappointed with the service and food we received that night when we had already told him how good it was.
We were shown to our table straight away and they took the orders really quickly but we had to wait 50 minutes for the food to arrive. We asked how long the food would be after 35 minutes and were told another 5 minutes but it took another 15 minutes to arrive.
One of the meals - caesar salad arrived without the croutons. Two of the meals had chips which were covered in green/black, bad bits and a lot of them were odd small crispy bits rather than the usual chunky chips you usually get there. One of the cups of chips was only half full. They did put this right when we complained though.
One of us ordered a dessert - lemon cheesecake. this arrived obviously defrosted in the microwave and was half hot and half cold. the excuse given was that it was a baked cheesecake and hadnt been warmed properly but it was obviously meant to have been served at room temperature and not a baked cheesecake at all - just microwave defrosted. We sent this back and declined a replacement as it was very off putting.
We asked to speak to the manager who, after 15 minutes came over and said he would not charge for the cheesecake - which in any case had not been eaten! All he said by way of explanation was that he had taken our comments on board.
Very disappointing as the service and food here are normally spot on.

Shame to hear about your experience Jade-c, I went Saturday evening (070412) at 6 and my meal (burger with mushroom) was fantastic, i have to admit it's splendid value for money and won't hestitate to go again, i have heard it's hit and miss at this place but i for one never have a bad meal there, kinda lucky i guess.

We were also in on the Friday night mentioned above and had a great experience. Food was all delievered in a good amount of time and was nice when it arrived. No complaints from our table of four. We also had a baby with us and were made to feel welcome which was great considering in other places we might not have been so welcome on a Friday night!

I'm sure its a one off, it won't put us off going back as we have had some lovely meals there in the past. It was just a shame it had to be that particular night when we had told our friend how nice it was.

Used to go in The Bear all the time when it was purely a pub, it was my favourite pub in town. I assumed that The Bear Grill was purely a restaurant so had never been in. Went in last night and had a few drinks and a bite to eat. The burgers are really excellent, fantastic gourmet burgers. Will return I think. Enough to say the service as ever in a Lewis Partnership place was second to none. Chris, there was a young lad working the bar last night, didnt note his name unfortunately, can I single him out for extra praise, he was excellent.

Does anyone know if they show the Olympics in The Bear Grill? It's been so long since I last went there that I can't even remember whether they have TVs or not. Intending to go there for some lunch today and need to keep up with the sporty happenings.

Hopefully that offer will enable me to drag the lads in tomorrow. I think your place would be ideal for a bite to eat before hitting the town, but my mate wants Chinese. Hopefully I'll be in tomorrow then.
