It reminds me of 1992 when it looked curtains for the tories even with the dreaded Maggie gone and a new leader, albeit Major Major Major.

(Maj. Major Major Major: Sergeant, from now on, I don't want anyone to come in and see me while I'm in my office. Is that clear?
First Sgt. Towser: Yes, sir? What do I say to people who want to come in and see you while you're gone?
Maj. Major Major Major: Tell them I'm in and ask them to wait.
First Sgt. Towser: For how long?
Maj. Major Major Major: Until I've left.
First Sgt. Towser: And then what do I do with them?
Maj. Major Major Major: I don't care.
First Sgt. Towser: May I send people in to see you after you've left?
Maj. Major Major Major: Yes.
First Sgt. Towser: You won't be here then, will you?
Maj. Major Major Major: No.
First Sgt. Towser: I see, sir. Will that be all?
Maj. Major Major Major: Also, Sergeant, I don't want you coming in while I'm in my office asking me if there's anything you can do for me. Is that clear?
First Sgt. Towser: Yes, sir. When should I come in your office and ask if there's anything I can do for you?
Maj. Major Major Major: When I'm not there.
First Sgt. Towser: What do I do then?
Maj. Major Major Major: Whatever has to be done.
First Sgt. Towser: Yes, sir.)

We haven't got to that point yet and heaven help us all if we have a con majority. Are people so ready for change that they will shoot their feet for it?

Sorry to hark on about the poster ban .....
One thing that concerns me about this is that whatever you think about their effectiveness or whether they're an eyesore or how good the effacement of the same is, at least you know an election is ongoing - we want people to vote ergo we want people to know tis time to do so, no?

Exactly, mon ami, exactly so.

Though i think this particular exercise in local democracy was intentioned quite a while ago so corruption charges may be a bit too late.

Whatever the result, FPTP is an affront to democracy, as is the 'House of Lords'.....
I completely agree and hopefully this will be the election result that proves that beyond a doubt for the unconvinced.
I totally agree, I heard on the radio today that based on current polls labour and conservatives will get approx 260 - 280 seats each and lib dems around 80. I'f I remember correctly that was based on labour only getting 1% more of the vote than lib dems and the torys a few precent more again. Please don't quote me on that though as I'm not 100% sure on the figures and I can't be bothered tolook them up.

I have to say to I suspect that it will be business as usual..

I hope that I am totally wrong.

But I doubt it.

I'll bet you £5 that should we end up with a formal coalition government, we will have a referendum on PR within the lifetime of this Parliament, which will certainly not be business as usual?

Are you giving odds?..

We are still in Purdah, unless of course you are Welsh

I suspect the same, I'm just waiting to see if the Lib Dems bottle it on any of their coalition requests. If so, they are out next time (along with whoever they join with).

The last results in Stafford are below. Despite the apparent surge in Lib Dem support following the debates, it would be an almost unheard of result to more than treble your vote and go from third to first place.

Labour David Kidney 19,889 43.7 -4.3
Conservative David Chambers 17,768 39.0 +2.4
Liberal Democrat Barry Stamp 6,390 14.0 +4.5
UKIP Frederick Goode 1,507 3.3 -1.9

However, the pundits are now talking about a meltdown and Labour securing less votes than they did in 1983.

I'm not convinced of that and remain hopeful that the 1/3 of the electorate who are undecided and therefore excluded from all the polls will make a significant difference to the current projections.

Whatever happens on Thursday, I think the election will show our FPTP post system as being in dire need of reform and place PR under scrutiny unlike any event before.
The vibes are that the labour vote has collapsed the SDGH factor is wot dunnit lib-dem are hopeful of getting the lions share which should give them 2nd place, still no politico has knocked on my door.....

Don't be so sure.

There is a big difference between how people say they will vote and how their hand moves with a pencil over the box.

There are so many floating voters tis a wonder someone doesn't tie a string to their legs and sell them 2 for £1 in the Square.

Still no one at my door either - f**kin' cowards.

Paddy Power is offering 6/1 Labour and 1/14 for the Tories.
For Stafford?

8-1 is better but even at 6-1 it's got to be worth it - i still don't think it's such a done deal.
