oh dear.

now i know my dad lurks on here...so i apologise in advance!

i am quite ashamed to say that i may be a closet tory! according to the link chick posted

i have to admit that i have always known which way im going to vote, but the only way i can see that you can decide is to see what your local MP has done for you and vote for them on their merit, even if you dont agree wholely with all their partys policies.

what has their conduct been like with regards to the expenses scandal? what have they achieved for the local area if anything? how potent are they...or do they just give the impression of being a wet dishrag?

unfortunately, my local mp shares her name with another mp who is standing in essex and that really threw me when i was trying to do some research! lol

but interestingly, she voted very similarly to david kidney on some of the key issues (inquest into iraq/id cards) and i suspect that there may have been some whip involvement.

im off now...to do the other link post on page 2 to see if i cant redeem myself!

it sort of worked...according to the votematch link:

lib dem- 52%
labour- 45%
conservative- 35%

this really has made me reevaluate how i feel about the election as it has challenged my perception of my leftness/rightness.

Just checked my results again and on voteforpolocies I got:

Here's the breakdown of your results

* Green Party 11.11%
* Lib Dems 33.33%
* UKIP 33.33%
* BNP 22.22%

Crime Green Party
Democracy Lib Dems
Economy Lib Dems
Education UKIP
Environment UKIP
Europe BNP
Health / NHS BNP
Immigration UKIP
Welfare Lib Dems
Very suprised at the BNP ones, but TBH most policies had parts I didn't like so was going for the closest match. Looks like the yella fella's may well get a vote from me, teh interwebs told me to!

Voteforpolicies rated me.
50% BNP
25% UKIP
25% Lib Dem
Seems to me that between this one and Votematch a lot of folks that wouldn't vote this way are getting pretty similar results.

voteforpolicies, hmmm, now I'm 50% Green, 25% Libdem and 25% Tory.

Oh the shame of it.
That doesn't surprise me overmuch - as far as i can see the Greens and LibDems, to a lesser extent, are the only remotely socialist parties in the running.

Edit:
Votematch had me;
Green 76
LibDem 62
BNP 40
Lab 38
UKIP 36
Con 31

voteforpolicies;
Green 66.67%
LibDem 22.22%
Lab 11.11%

Hmmm...

Amongst the candidates listed in the local newspapers for Stafford is UKIP. This constituency might be one of the few where the UKIP candidate does not stand down in favour of the Conservative as we have a Labour sitting MP for Stafford. Most of UKIP are defectors from the Conservative Party. So if you were to vote Conservative then UKIP might be your alternative. Me, I'm off to start me own party in Staffordshire for the future as slowly but surely fewer and fewer of us are voting at all. Most people are saying to each other that they will not vote at all in this general election, it is becoming the thing to say in polite conversation.

It may be the polite thing to say but are they being honest?

One of the reasons behind the pollsters getting 1992 so wrong is that a substantial amount of tory voters declined to participate and answer questions, putting themselves at "don't knows"

I have a strong suspicion that Labour will benefit from a similar reluctance to declare.

I suspect you're right there. What a turn around that people would rather say they'll vote for the cons or not at all than vote Labour. 1997 seems an awful long time ago.

It's nice to see some honest political discussion round here, and great to see everyone being so candid with their opinions.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that Stafford Forum is not affiliated with or biased towards any political party or belief, and I will not respond to requests to remove or edit posts just because they don't fit in with an individual's own beliefs. :)

That is exactly what the Green Party is about. It has strong and distinctive policies on every issue, not just the environment.

Green Party leader Caroline Lucas talked at length about policies such as job creation, the tax system and opposing cuts to public services on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show yesterday.

You could watch our election broadcast which explains lots more about our wide range of policies.

Perhaps it is because our policies ring true with so many voters that the Green Party is currently first place on an independent online survey of policy opinions - www.voteforpolicies.org.uk.

And this newsletter from Mike Shone, the Green Party candidate for Stafford, also tackles a breadth of issues.

Actually, it was an improvement. It's definitely better, more concise and pertinent than 'There now follows an --'...

Edit - Tense re-arrangement, due to political cover-up above..

Yesterday I noticed the poster of the tory candidate Mr Lefroy in Newport Road. I thought to myself how long would it before somebody would add something witty or deface it. Low and behold on trudging off to get the train today, I noticed somebody had added a little moustache. It brought a smile to my face on a dreary Monday.

In the last General Election, I noticed that there was a Tory poster on the Eccleshall Road, under the sign that is intended to warn people about toads. I failed to get a picture of the conjunction and I hope that there's one there again this time.....
