This thing about dietary requirements baffles me. I can understand if it's your beliefs religion and vegitarian the other part, cannot eat such and such. I was brought up in the age you ate it or you go hungry. No choice never asked what you wanted not even at school. We had one or two kids that didn't have milk at school but I thought that was a ploy to have orange ( lucky B's) Also to my knowledge we never had any kid at school who could not eat peanuts. ( probably all dead).
Did Darwen discuss gluten free Chinese?

My brother developed lactose intolerance and granted it did make him fairly ill, but i used to get quite annoyed and a bit jealous at the lengths my mum went to to provide alternatives. For example:
Breakfast for me, cereal, like it or lump it.
Breakfast for him because he couldn't have milk: sausages, weetabix with jam etc on, beans on toast etc. I still don't get why she couldn't just do him toast, like it or lump it.

Saying that however when you go out to eat and you are a veggie or need gluton free etc etc, fair enough you want nice alternatives and a couple of options because you might not necesarily like the frst one ;p. Any establishment who manages this i tip my hat to and thank. Sadly the Hand and Cleaver is a bit too far away for me. I have an old school freind who drinks in there regularly though as he is local.

I also believe restaraunts should not have a kids menu. They should have small portions from the main menu.

My brother reckoned putting his hands in to washing up water made him ill. My mother still made him do the washing up

Funny enough my brother had a similar problem. He has an allergy to soap (sadly it's legit, makes all the skin peel off his hands, eww) so instead of getting him some rubber gloves, precious #1 son didn't have to wash up. The annoying thing is i move out, they get a dishwasher, hmmm.

It definitely is open and the food is much recommended. As far as I can tell, everything is properly made, from scratch, in the kitchens. Including amazing pastry and real custard.

Im not sure what that is but it could be a good selling point come the autumn

I'm astonished, given you are a self proclaimed food snob, that you aren't aware in the days before Mr Bird developed an alternative, custard was produced by combining eggs with sugar and warm cream.

Well we went for a meal there last night following the article in the local paper. Great greeting and lovely staff, very helpful and courteous. Food was fantastic with no complaints.

However not so good.

We sat down at 7.30 when we had booked our table for. Our Starter came at 8.10 and our main course came at 9pm after asking where it was. People coming in after us were leaving before us and we never ever got asked if we wanted a pudding so cannot comment on that one.
They will need to change a couple of things before we go back again. Shame becasue the food was very good but waiting that length of time and no pudding unacceptable, sorry....
