If anyone here pronounces "scone" so that it rhymes with "stone" I'm banning you.. I'm not even joking..

(:teef:)
So you think scone to rhyme with gone? That's not right.

What's up with scowns? If it was scon it surely wouldn't have an 'e' on the end. Is it a regional thing?
No - English is a very idiosyncratic language.. In this instance, the word "scone" follows the pronunciation convention demonstrated by:

one != own
gone != goan
done != doan
shone != shown
etc.

You are both now banned - hope you're happy :lolsmash:

A tenth person has been arrested as part of the investigation into the three suspected heroin overdose deaths in Stafford. They were found over the course of two days this week in the Highfields and Rising Brook areas of the town.
Detectives believe a contaminated or strong batch of the drug may have killed the two men and one women.

Edit; there really is no other news this week, oh, wait, the River Sow burst it's banks around the Town Park.

Quite. I went to feed the ducks in the pouring rain, so thought I could take shelter under the bridge, but there was no getting close the water was up to the height of the benches.

Does anyone remember in 2000 when it flooded so much it was up to the bridge near 'spoons?
Hell Yes! We were kept busy pumping out various establishments and rescuing livestock all over the county, but our claim to fame was the rescuing the residents of Sandon Road by boat!

Sky got hold of the video from the Brigades Press officer, and my mum and dad got the shock of their life while on holiday in Portugal. They were luxurating the sub tropical temperatures of a hot Portugese November, sipping chilled rose at a beach bar, when something caught dads eye on the bars' telly, Stafford on Sky News, semi-submerged, and sure enough Number two son, nadger deep, towing some owd biddy in an inflatable boat!

It was great for us to be quite honest, and totally selfish, we just went from job to job with barely a break for a brew, Stafford can be quite a quiet station at times, but not that week!

Has anyone noticed that the marsh off the Queensway is resembling a Louisiana Swamp, and has been for months? The Council car park off North Walls has been under flood water for ages. I cannot honestly remember when it was last submerged for this length of time. I half expect to see some Cajun Hillbillies emerging, a la Southern Comfort (now there was a film)

I do, although I'm wrong, as you are if you pronounce it "skon", as it should actually be pronounced "Skoon". With an "oo" sound, as if you're from Stoke, not with an "uh" as if you're not.

Twas' indeed Cookie. Spoons, Curry Kuteer, Riverside and even Tesco felt the full force of the Floods, but worst affected was the Nursery on Lammascot Road which had to close for ages!

You should be banned for making everyone else's lives seem really dull. Or is it just mine?
Banned ... again!
:ohno:

It's easy to sound interesting when you combine the years and years of experiences into a few posts!

You ought to hear my mums tales, starting with climbing Mt Kilmanjaro in her late sixites, falling as she left the summit, and being whisked the off peak, by the guides, whilst bleeding profusely from a series of headwounds. Now that's interesting!

didn't you have a story about that? something about a grisly discovery floating about post-flood?

I love the term "running out of control". Do they mean she was running and she lost control, or that she ran out of, i.e. lost, control?

Sorry for finding amusement in what could have been a tragic story, but the turn of phrase just made me laugh.
