is it just me who was confused by this post? it seems a bit random, almost as if it was in response to someone else, but i can't figure out who/what??

or are you saying that you have something to do with the new pie & ale house, beverley, and you were just popping in to let us know you're here? :)
If this is true beverley, you can respond by mentioning the opening times :)

As tek implies - and far be it from me to explain things on basil's behalf, I also believe that it is a response to his earlier comment with its oblique reference to the fact that Beverley has been here for two and a half years and that was her fourth post and the first for a year.

Pies and Banks's Mild....does it get any better?? The matador pie looks fan-fricking-tastic...think may have to pop in over the weekend!

Just had lunch there, very good. Had Thai (curry) chook pie and a pint of Marstons Empire IPA. Wouldn't pay more than £5.95 for what I had food wise but it was darn good. IPA was very nice too.

don't mention the blinds
Ive been building up to this and I'll be there tomorrow afternoon, in my minds-eye i have a picture of 'The Matador' used to love this at The Bear until they stopped serving them a couple of yrs back. Beer wise i know that they have Banks's mild and original although if the 'Empire' is on then i'll maybe go for that......:xmas:

Well, went in tonight. Very impressed overall. Pies were great, I went for the festive one (venison, pheasant, partridge), and my GF and my brother went for Mr Porky. My GFs daughter was with us, and they only normally do sausage and mash for kids. We asked for for a smaller portion of the cold meat and bread platter, but were told they couldn't do it. TBH that did put me off a bit, but the owner came over to ask how we were and I asked him, and he immediately sorted it out for us. He was great, very friendly and good with kids. Also he got my green goblin, so top marks there! It was still in the cellar when I arrived, and not even on the till, but it he just told me to pay later when they'd sorted it out. Somebody else, possibly a co-owner, also got us some coloured pencils and pictures for Ellie to colour in, so that was nice. We also sampled the Thatchers Gold, which makes a very nice change from Strongbow that everyone sells. No idea on the real ales, don't drink them, but there were 6 on.

So to sum up, I'll go back. Food is strangely limited, its pie or cured cold meat, but I'm happy with that. He serves food til about half 10, and closes about 11. Opens at 9 too, should you want early doors. Oh, and the sticky toffee roulade is bloody amazing! None of us wanted it, so just got one for the little un, then all helped her eat it! Apparently the champagne mouse with strawberries is addictive, may have to try that next time.

Its also 'technicaly' on my way home, so I may have to start having my tea there some nights....
