What's for dinner/tea?

So tonight I can’t really be bothered.

Just pan fried some mushrooms and added a tub of shop bought mushroom sauce.
Added fusilli. So it’s veggie mushroom pasta.

When he gets home from Birmingham he might be expecting a culinary masterpiece, what with me being at home all day without him.

Oh dear.
Sounds lovely x

Thank you, it will probably be fine. I’ve not tasted it yet.

The thing is, pre lockdown, when he was working in an actual real office, he would sometimes be eating out with clients, or he might have had lunch out so wouldn’t want a meal in the evening, or we’d be out with friends etc.

But now, I’m retired and at home, and he’s working his socks off. The very least I can do is have a meal ready for him..... but that’s every lunch, whether it be soup or a sandwich, then every dinner. Every night.
He just doesn’t cook so it’s all down to me. (He can cook two things so we’re making inroads.).

But sometimes I just find it tedious, thinking of things to cook.

Why not teach him to cook by making a meal together when he isn't working?

He'll probably enjoy making a meal to surprise you once he gets the hang of it.

I'm slightly lucky in that the carer will cook, when furloughed. I go to work, he stays at home, but he will cook. Its not always things that I like... Most meals seem to consist of extra cheese/garlic/bacon/butter, but at least he tries.

He does nothing else though, no other jobs exist in the house, he is housework blind. Roll on end of lockdown.

Yes, we’ve done that.
He can now make tuna pasta and chicken stir fry.
He particularly likes the stir fry “because it sizzles and I feel like a cook”

Anyway, we’re getting there.
2 meals in 20 years.

But to be honest, and to be fair to him, he just doesn’t have the interest.
He’s not a foodie, and probably never will be.

If I could perhaps make an analogy, it would be like someone making me go under the bonnet of a car every night to check the oil and water.
I could learn how to do it, but it would still be a chore to me.

I'm sure he'll understand, when you explain you were too busy being Bednalls answer to Erica Rowe to cook! xx

My husband is wonderful and enjoys cooking - my only gripe is if left unattended he tries 'something new'....

I'll be eating a home favourite and he'll enquire 'does it taste good as usual?' which always arouses suspicion...

Turns out he would have added a spoon of marmite or a random spice to see what would happen!

Sometimes the results are interesting....

Lunch.

Sausage roll and coffee from the repositioned Shed cooker.

Much more convenient for raising a simmering kettle from the stove to boiling point on the cooker.

Still with an internal gas bottle, at the moment, though, but I do need to investigate a few things for the final position of the through-wall gas pipe to the outside world.

Was really looking forward to making Shepard's pie (in my oven) but husband turned his nose up at it!

I even suggested toad the the hole but that was booed!

Instead were having a very unexciting pasta with cheese sauce!

I've got some baking planned next week so will get my oven fix at a later date!!
