Hi All

I am the owner of the The Island - Stafford,

Any questions please do not hesitate to ask, also i will be organising a GRAND OPENING in the next couple of months, anyone interested please get in touch.

I have been working on this place now for over 2 years, i have had to renovate the full building top to bottom costing me alot of money, i really appreciate everyone support especially the locals that pass by.

I can tell you this place will be a Restaurant, meals prepared by an award winning Chef, and to start this will be bring your own Alcohol so will work out cheaper for everyone.

Finally as this building has such a history, I have decided to keep the name as THE ISLAND.

P.S - Experience restaurant staff please get in touch.

Thank you Everyone for reading

Could you please reassure me and other forumites that those awful windows you have installed at the island are not an indication of the standard of workmanship that has taken place inside the building.

Yes, I demand you take those new windows out and replace them with those rotten, skanky ones which have been flaking away for the last twenty years. Funny how some folk are really great at spending other peoples money.

Feed the goat. I am assuming by your comment that you are clearly not familiar with the forebridge conservation area appraisal report February 2013 (this is available online). The report highlights the area where the island pub is situated to be included within the conservation area and urges the borough council to pay close attention to buildings located within the conservation area and those that are within the neighbouring proposed area such as the island pub.

The report makes specific comments on issues within the conservation boundary and within the proposed area. I refer you to summary of issues where it states that the loss of original windows and there replacement with ones that are inappropriate in design and materials are detracting from the area.

I am therefore very surprised that the borough council has again failed in its planning duty. Under the conservation area act 1990 the local authority has a duty to pay special attention to the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of a conservation area and it's setting in the exercise of it's planning function.

You may not of liked the original timber windows but they were far more attractive than the awful ones they have been replaced with which are not in character, not in keeping with the original design and do not enhance or preserve the building Therefore I would urge the owner to have a rethink and seek to replace these and would strongly advise that before they did any further works to the external envelope if the structure they talk to the conservation officer. Clearly the owner does not need to do this as they are not in the conservation area but i would hope that they would.

How can Kwik Fit be in a conservation zone.

What is more of an eyesore, someones new windows or a giant tin shed with illuminated signage.

Kwik Fit is not in the conservation area and is not considered within the proposed extension. It is described within the conservation area report produced in November 2013 to be a negative building within the area. However The Island pub is within the new proposed boundary and is described as a positive building with the Boundary which is why it is imperative that the character of the building was preserved or enhanced. However as you can see from the earlier image of the building, the new windows are not in character and do not enhance the building and should be removed.

The curent occupier could of replicated the existing windows in PVC which would have been an improvement on what is there now, which are cheap, ugly looking windows.

Out of interest was this conservation area report published before or after permission was granted for the building work taking place? As for the 'better' windows, again if it isn't a listed building it isn't needed. What we need to do is get buildings that we want to keep listed, that way they have to follow strict rules. I know the college had a right game getting windows for Tenterbanks, there were less than half a dozen manufacturers that were actually licensed to sell them which I believe affected the price considerably.
