What if there was a "none of the above" option?Amongst many reasons why i'd be against your making of voting being compulsory; Freedom of choice, high chance of yet more ill-informed voting, wasted man hours and money dishing out fines (if that's the route you'd take) to those that refused to vote and because i said so.
No good trying to make people vote or question why people aren't voting, question why the heck the people trying to get our vote are a pile of old horse-y dung. What if there was a "none of the above" option?
I'm not sure if compulsory voting should come in or that it would actually work. But when such a large proportion of people don't vote, how can an election be truly representative of the wishes of the people when lots don't bother to vote?
I saw the graphic below on Twitter. It says stats are from the Electoral Commission (I haven't checked) but if they are true, it's a big number of people who aren't having their say - or don't want to, of course.View attachment 3556

We gave Cameron a clear majority of the parliamentary vote with 38% of the actual vote. It's much the same thing. That's the American way! It's bizarre. FPTP may not be perfect but it usually means most votes wins but for America it doesn't.
...and look how that crock turned out.We gave Cameron a clear majority of the parliamentary vote with 38% of the actual vote. It's much the same thing.
Al Gore got over half a million more votes in 2000 than George W Bush did. That's the American way! It's bizarre. FPTP may not be perfect but it usually means most votes wins but for America it doesn't.
