Has it opened today as planned?
Yes, it was quite busy an hour ago, a five minute wait at the bar continuing as if it was a Wetherspoons, but no sticky tables. Yet.
Burger, pie or fish - each with chips etc - or sausage, mash and peas for £9.99.
As I was leaving a couple of about my age left within a minute because it was "too noisy"

What's the atmosphere in there like? Are there many changes? How's the food? Is the prison door still there along with the glass cabinet of Lotus shoes?

I was invited last night to enjoy some free hospitality. The food was excellent and the 4 davenport beers I tried were all very drinkable.

It's a nice makeover and very cheap for food and beer. The beers are from £2.35.

For those that haven't been yet, it feels to me like a cross between Weatherspoons, Yard and Kennys. They are trying to appeal to a wider audience and become more of an all round bar with live sports, a pool table and live entertainment every weekend.

I'm not sure about an atmosphere but there a quite a few changes.
I've neither eaten nor seen anyone else eating.
The prison door and Lotus lasts have gone, with tiling to the left and a wall of TV screens along the right now.
There's no sticky tables or sticky carpets but the toilets are still upstairs.

I popped in this afternoon but no free tables so didn't stay for a drink and the changes I noted were:
The right hand wall has three large screens
The entrance is now a turn right as you enter
The seats are all high seats with mainly tables of four
The area to the left as you walk in is now a pool table.
The pool table is really wonky with some interesting shots returning without the aid of backspin.
They had two Davenport's and another beer on the hand pumps
It was really busy
Looks like all of the old tat (prison door, show collection, gaol cells, fireplace, etc has all been removed (but I may be wrong as I wasn't in there long)
Loads of people were moaning about the place when I was in other pubs

It's good to have something new opening at that end of town so good luck to them I say!!!

I popped in at 2.20pm today, convenient from Gaol Square and the bus from Milford.
It took five minutes to get served, so not much change there.
I agree with your comments except that the right hand wall has five or six large screens and there are seats and tables at a sensible height just below that TV wall.
The two Davenport's cask beers are Original and Gold and the other beer on the hand pumps is Sharps Doom Bar.

Further to my previous post I've popped into the Bellend for a spot of brekkie before getting the train to Manchester.

It's obviously a lot less crowded today so I can actually correct a few things as follows

There's actually six screens along the wall where the fireplace used to be, another on the side wall where the shoes were, three above the bar, two by the windows either side of the door.

And there are some lower tables near the screens.

One of the bar staff was pulling through both Davenport's handpulls so I'm guessing that they had a good opening day yesterday.

I can't be the only one who hates seeing a telly screen in a pub? Yes, I'm old, female and hate sports. But I just can't stand a noisy/blaring telly in a pub.
It's like music, too loud, you can't hear what anyone is saying, and if like myself, you have a bit of a hearing imparement to start with, it feels worse when you leave the place.
