Awww @Glam he looked gorgeous. So sad that happened to him 😭 literally got me tears reading that.
He was a massive, beautiful and very loving cat and his name was Puss.
According to the vet, the twat that aided his death, must have kicked him really hard on his back to cause the paralisis. The vets kept him in overnight just to see how he went movement wise, and if he had a wee, Did neither.
I haven't forgotten and believe that revenge is a dish served ice cold from the freezer. This is Puss in his favourite spot

'My' cat is concentrating on getting the base staff back up to speed on the catering front, but she does still have a bowl of food here, although it's been untouched since Sunday night, when they returned. It's available, for emergency use, in the conservatory. I leave the door cracked open at night, so there will be access for her. Last night, I also left the door into the house open when I went to bed.

This lapse was spotted quickly on the first security check and she popped in to alert me and ensure things were OK.

As I had the bedroom laptop running, I took the opportunity to show her the latest pictures in this thread - but, the extreme contrast has whited out the screen in this photo.

Unfortunately, though, this means that she saw @littleme's rather personal comment about her age.

The purring stopped and the claws came out.

I suspect that cats at ports of entry have all been alerted by now...

Does everyone know... If ever you loose your cat (it wanders off) there is a tradition (Chinese, I think)... If you see a street cat/homeless cat/any cat In your area.. stop to speak to it ..tell it your cat is missing, tell it what your cat looks like, it's name, colour & personality...they will pass the information on to other cats & help get your cat home..

Today is International Cat Day
I didn't know that Glam, only that it's the 61st anniversary of the Great Train Robbery ( when I was at junior school ) and the fiftieth anniversary of Richard Nixon resigning ( when I was working at the Hull Brewery ). How time flies !

Molly the cat had a traumatic day at the vet for international cat day. She wouldn't stay still for them to scan her to investigate a heart murmur so had to be sedated. Nothing of any note found and she's now home but it's always worrying when they're elderly.

I got up this morning and went to bathroom. Couldn’t work out why there appeared to be small poos all over bathroom floor! Then I saw something hiding behind the sink pedestal. I convinced myself I must be seeing things , must be a ball of socks.
Upon closer inspection 🧐 it was a hedgehog 🦔… in the upstairs bathroom!
So either my cats somehow managed to carry a hedgehog through two cats flaps or it came in by itself.

Ahem??? Not of the poo! Obviously.

The cat and I have instituted several general procedures over the last couple of years, which tick along quite well. During my ten days on duty recently, some others became necessary. One of these was never fully closing the conservatory door. A five-inch gap gave her 24 hour access to food and, whenever I was actually at home, the door into the house would be open, also.

This worked quite well and, after the base staff returned, there have been generally only brief visits to the house.

By pure fluke, leaving the conservatory door slightly open has little of a downside in wet weather, the layout and the prevailing winds conspire to cause very little ingress, so last night's and this morning's steady drizzle here was not an issue. The first task for today was the weekly Lidl run, but I was in no rush and had a bit of a lie-in.

This obviously raised concerns about my wellbeing and it was felt necessary to check up on me. This involved the snoozing me being woken by what may have been the wettest cat in history - like being swabbed down by a floor mop charged with iced water.

Having quickly established that I was still alive, she then went off about her business.

The cat was concerned about the intrusion and required the installer to be checked and authorised. Also, his extremely neatly packed van was examined and approved.
Ahem!! How concerned? We need photographic evidence please and thank you.
We were both far too busy for such frivolity yesterday, during the intense security operation, but, after its successful conclusion, today has been designated as a mandatory rest day (for one of us...)

Cat flaps?

I presume a few people have cat flaps in current operation.

What sort of dimension is the aperture that is available when the flap is 'open'.

Is 6" square the right sort of size for a cut that isn't huge, etc?

I have a plan to make a panel to fit into the space when the sliding patio door is a few inches ajar and have it 'reasonably closed' as the winter arrives, but still allowing some access. I can then even bolt the door in position, when necessary. The flap would be free-to-use, but nobody else has tried to enter the premises via the wide open door all through the summer, so it should be OK. I've been able to leave the door six inches open for the last while, but the weather is closing in...

There is no requirement to chip cats here and she's not keen on collars and stuff, I've only ever seen one once, some years ago, so there can't be much of a 'selective security enhancement' on the access arrangements.

To pre-empt those who would complain of the lack of a picture with this post, this is her now, under the table as I type this, taking advantage of the fact that I declined the item that I was offered for my tea.

My parents had that carpet in the dining room in weeping cross in the 1980s + ...

Cat flaps, sounds about the right size, only once (years ago) did Mr Foxy stick his head through and scare the heck out of me... Pretty sure he could have fitted through it too, if I hadn't scared the heck out of him....

It might be the same one - did it have small bits of mouse on it?

I seem to have been leaving the door about 5" ajar and she hasn't complained about that.

I'm in other climes so can't measure ours, but I think you can probably find a template online.

We have a microchip one to stop the nasty neighbourhood cats coming in and eating Molly's food. We did, however, have our windows painted last week, and noticed on camera that the neighbourhood cat jumped in through the drying window to eat...
