I'm in other climes so can't measure ours, but I think you can probably find a template online.

We have a microchip one to stop the nasty neighbourhood cats coming in and eating Molly's food. We did, however, have our windows painted last week, and noticed on camera that the neighbourhood cat jumped in through the drying window to eat...
One stray cat busted it's way through our cat flap...

Our only works in only now...

We have a cat flap 15cm wide and 17cm high - and he's a fat f**ker.

So, this is the general idea for the cat flap board. It can be trapped in place and a suitable flap arranged at the bottom.

However, I am now in two minds about this project. Hidden by the board in the above picture is an old chest of drawers, 'there for now'.

Whilst trimming the board to size, I became aware that somebody has stashed a rabbit under there and is snacking on it whilst supervising me...

Earlier today, I was informed that she had caught something, by the sort of wailing sound she makes, usually presenting me with the catch, but there was nothing in evidence at the time, when she popped in to inform me. I'll know better next time...

It might be the same one - did it have small bits of mouse on it?

I seem to have been leaving the door about 5" ajar and she hasn't complained about that.
I left our patio windows open just a couple of inches once in our Stafford house , to stop the neighbours cat coming in as we were going out. He somehow managed to squeeze his body through that and get in (but then reckoned he couldn't fit through a massive open door as I tried to usher him back out again. )

We have a cat flap in our utility room door here. It has a lock on it, but I don't trust that so have a homemade security device , cardboard boxes cut to size with plastic bags stuck over 😂 , to try to deter anything bursting through. So far we haven't woke up to any of the many foxys , cats, squirrels etc inside the house........

Can't measure the actual opening for you without taking my ' DIY extra security device'off.

For those of you that have cats with uninary problems & getting them to drink fluids... I've recently found catit stews, very liquid and my 3 cats love them... 97p each on Amazon... I think there's 4 flavours. If you order from Catit the postage is nearly £4.00 so ordering from Amazon the postage us free..

The square pyramid mousses from Gourmet are good too. Bloo has quite a variety of food ranging from gravy based food overnight, the mousse for dinner with us and a mon petit in the morning. He used to have soups for dinner but went off them.

Honestly the best thing you can do to get a cat to drink is a fountain though, they’re predisposed to avoid still water. Bloo’s had one since we got him, and drinks a tonne of water (he has CKD now so that’s incredibly important) and a friend of ours had a kitten that wasn’t drinking, got a fountain and they drink water like crazy now.

We used to have the Catit flower one but recently upgraded to the Catit Pixie fountain. It’s not ideal for very dim long hair cats though as they like to dip their chest hair in it then come up to you screaming to be dried…

Don’t ask me how I know that.

I bought a fountain, but they wouldn't go near it. 😔

'Mine' does occasionally use the water bowl that remains where her food station was during her ten day holiday here. But, mostly, she just uses the birds' water supplies and the occasional bucket that's around outside.

She hasn't yet used the cat flap on her own, but she is aware of how it works. She's not keen on how it drops on her tail, but she'll get over that aspect, I'm sure.

She really didn't like the noise of the bandsaw in the shed the first few times, but isn't at all bothered by it now, for example.

I haven't seen her today yet, although I have had a delivery of a breakfast mouse.

Molly now has a glass to drink from, it's the only way I can get her to drink (she used to stick her head in my water glasses)

My sister has 3 'strays' up at the farm. I say strays because she acquired them when they moved in to the place. None of them drink out of a bowl, instead they prefer the massive square water butt thing that the gutters drain into.

'My' cat returned today - I hadn't seen her since Thursday morning. Busy elsewhere, I'm told, although I suspect I was covered by inspections that I just didn't actually witness...

Today has, conveniently, been devoted to covert surveillance.

This has been the nicest day of the year so far, and she's determined not to waste it.

She has also brought in extra staff, to deal with any invertebrate issues that might be going on, I presume.

A significant event!

A fifteen minute search finally located 'my' cat, on guard duties at nextdoor's gate.

This is significant, as it shows the first fully independent use of the new cat-flap facility.

I did nudge the flap for her to come in this morning, to guard the premises whilst I nipped out to the hardware shop. She carried on with a nap in the conservatory upon my return.

About an hour later, she was not to be seen on her settee and a search of the house revealed no evidence of her. This, however, was not conclusive proof of absence, as she was definitely in there once and I just couldn't find her.

Finding her definitely outside just now means that we should be OK to continue the new arrangement, when the cooler weather returns and I can do a few small improvements to the cat-flap panel, to make it more suitable for the winter.

Back in June we unfortunately lost our beloved Jasmine after 16 years. We have had a few 'cat-less' months however, we decided it was time to welcome some more furry friends into our lives.

We have adopted two 6 month old brothers, Jude (the Tuxie) & Jagger (Black). Both settling in well, I had forgotten how energetic young kitties are though!.
