If the thought of all of the food and beer doesn't whet your appetite - although why wouldn't it! - then how about some seriously good cider instead...? We've had confirmed:
- a dry traditional farmhouse still (6.5%)
- a medium dry traditional (5.6%)
- a medium oak casked (6.5%)
AND a new season traditional still
... all from the lovely folk at Broome Farm Cider!

Details on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/350578614997839/ - Saturday 16th of June, 11:00-23:00 at Wolseley Bridge.

Just had a weekend away in Devon, stopped off en route at Weston-super-Mare & Burnham on Sea. Just outside Burnham saw a farmyard sign for 'prize winning cider' £8.00 for a five litre container at about 6.5% proof. Dry, not fizzy, lovely stuff, ensured a merry week-end.

Swan at Stone is this year's local CAMRA cider pub of the year, presentation made last Thursday at the Swan's beer festival.

The licensee of the Horse & Jockey at Penkridge is hoping to keep three or four ciders on, he is a cider drinker himself and needs the public's support in keeping his favourite drink on! Might be worth dropping in if you go to Penkridge Market or on your way to the Swan at Whiston.

Apart from these and the Sun, are there any other reliable cider serving pubs around? Not keen on the Spittal Brook as they are too fond of promoting the ersatz Addlestones over the real Westons

Spoons have a cider festival on, not been yet though. They do seem to regularily have black dragon inna box, along with the bottles of Green Goblin, Wyld Wood (was westons organic) and a few others. Other than that the only places I know are the Stafford Ale House (Green Goblin, Katy) or the Greyhound (several, inclusing one of my favourites Old Rascal). Those are all bottles though, very few sell draught.

Sad times for us cider drinkers really, seems like every pub out there wants to promote real ales but then they sell us Strongbow :(

Lidl have bottles of Stowford Press or Old Rosie for £1.29 apparently, I shall investigate further! 2 weeks ago it was Katy and Thatchers Pear at the same price.

Has the Sun stopped doing Old Rosie? If you venture my way ever The Posada have Old Rosie permenently on tap. No good for other ciders though. It's always that bulmers or stella or brothers fruity stuff if most places have bottles.

The sun have a rolling 3 'barrels' of cider, although often there are only 2. Lately they seem to prefer scrumpy, not always what I am after but better than a bottle of Bulmers! As for the flavoured stuff, it's just a fruit based drink for the ladies. Or so says Al Murray. All I want is a nice Thatchers or Westons, is it really too much?

One of my faves, Henry Westons oak aged still cider 8.4% in Eccy Co-Op at £3.00 for two 500Ml bottles. Guessing all Co-Ops will be doing the same.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of it either.

Still some Stowford press export in Lidl, just grabbed a few on my way home.

Noticed they now have Aspalls on tap in The Smithy in Eccy. Not tried it, ,was lured by the Timmy Taylor's Landlord.

Aspalls Premier Cru in Morrisons at Stone at £1.50. Nice dry flavour.
Going to check out Lidl on way home tonight, they seem to rotate their ciders.

Home Bargains have 4 packs of Westons for £3.99, you'll have to be damn quick though as only 3 boxes were left after I'd visited! Boxes contain vintage, medium dry, medium sweet and extra dry.
