My small bit of research of this thread has shown me that Gilbert provides nothing more than "evidence" and deflection to fulfil his own bias. That is fine as long as he lives in his own cocoon, my concern is that people out of step on something fairly dangerous find themselves spiralling down further rabbit hole conspiracies. Kate Shemirani is a perfect example of this. Without question I suspect those nearest to him are likely to have concerns as its never one element of conspiracy, there is always something more, be that 5G, Climate change, jewish overlords. Always something else.
I've listened to her and while I believe many of her points are valid, I don't agree with how she makes them.
What you are guilty of is pigeon-holing one character with a list of traits, almost like somebody who opposes your view must get up every day and update a tick list!
The world has changed - politically, physically, socially and financially - with all factors effecting the majority. We will all react differently.
Many of us have chosen to go deeper on what they think we should just accept. That brings a degree of name calling from those who believe virtually all they've been fed.
The contents on the BMJ link I posted will confirm a lot of this, as will the partygate affair. They told us all to do one thing while they did something else! That's not a conspiracy, it happened in front of us if you were watching. It still is happening, with their dog whistle politics and gas lighting. Many many more of us refuse to take it.

Are you saying it didn't kill people? Because if you are you need to apologise to every single person who has lost someone from covid.
Didn't you know, covid was harmless, everyone just happened to die of other causes while they had it!

Eric will never meet one of his grandparents because of covid, she knew he was born but a visitor to the care home took it in and killed several of them before she could see him :soz:

Right-wing rhetoric has nearly always been that we shouldn't be "scared of a virus", wear masks or socially distance. It was very much under duress that the Tories caved to demands for the initial lockdown and restrictions, both by their scientific advisers and the public/media.

Many of us who believe in the necessity of precautions are of the opinion that Boris acted too late, was half-hearted when he did act and then got rid of all restrictions for political reasons rather than scientific, hence why the scientists disappeared from the press conferences in the lead up.

It's totally consistent with the above, then, that this government that did not believe in the measures that were forced upon them would flaunt them, particularly because they are a self-serving lot who view themselves as better than the rest of us, anyway.

I'm not sure why you think the idea that they didn't follow their own rules is in any sense a "gotcha" or that, if the threat was real, they wouldn't have been flaunting the rules. Their behaviour was exactly what we expected of them and the reason there was such a swell of anger was not because "we were lied to about the virus", it was because we lost friends and loved ones.

Millions of people in England will be offered a Covid booster jab next week, health officials have announced, as recent estimates show infections have climbed to their highest level this year.

Care home residents will be the first to receive the spring Covid-19 booster vaccine from Monday, with millions more people invited to book an appointment from Wednesday.

About 5 million people will be eligible for a booster until the end of June, including those aged 75 and over and anyone aged five and over who is immunosuppressed. Everyone will be able to book a jab online from 5 April, with the first appointments available from 17 April.

Millions of people will be sent their initial invitations through the NHS app, where they can also book their appointment. Text messages and letters will be sent to those without the app or who are not using it regularly.

The move comes after official UK estimates of Covid-19 last week showed infections in England had climbed to their highest level so far in 2023.

The findings mark the final time regular estimates of coronavirus are being published, as the long-running survey – described by some as the “envy of the world” for its success in tracking the virus – has been halted. Any further monitoring of Covid-19 will be announced after a review to ensure it is cost effective, according to the UK Health Security Agency.

An estimated 1.5 million people in private households in England were likely to have had coronavirus in the week ending 13 March, up from 1.3 million in the previous week, according to the Office for National Statistics. It was the highest total for England since the week to 3 January.

The NHS director of vaccinations and screening, Steve Russell, said: “As a society, we are learning to live with Covid but, for many, it is still a virus that can cause serious illness and hospitalisation, and so it is still really important that those at greatest risk come forward and boost their protection in the coming weeks.

“There are still about 8,000 people in hospital with Covid, according to the latest data, and the NHS has now treated more than 1 million Covid inpatients since the pandemic began.

“So if you are over 75 or you have a weakened immune system, please come forward as soon as possible to book a Covid vaccine this spring so you can enjoy summer with peace of mind.”

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation has said the booster campaign can include the Pfizer, Moderna, Sanofi/GSK jabs. The Novavax vaccine will be available for use only when alternatives are not considered clinically suitable.

Children under 12 will be offered a child formulation of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

I work in a supermarket (you all know which one) COVID levels amongst us is now at its highest.....anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool. I managed the whole time untill Christmas just gone with out catching COVID.... Working with the great unwashed public who didn't want to adhere to our rules of masks/queues etc....and I'm sure it was down to our vaccines...,without the vaccines many of us would be dead... Apart from the NHS we were probably the next largest group to be in the frontline to contracting the virus. We had no choice but to go to work, and we took all the precautions we could. Now since November last year there has been a massive rise in cases of covid (In my workplace) & you know why........no-one wears a mask anymore, no one socially distances, it's a general free for all now.... I went to a cat show recently, it was horrifiying how everyone was mingling/touching & soooo close to each other...we had to leave (I made us leave) but all 3 of us were really uncomfortable with the proximity of other people.

@gilbert grape , you sir, are a FOOL. A fool of the highest command.

Why are you of less value? I might have been as I work in a front facing job that was the equivalent to cannon fodder, just like the NHS.
The written intonation of responses coming my way only imply I'm a lesser being then everybody else rather than somebody with a valid opinion.
As I say, it's a valid opinion as it aligns with millions out there rather than half a dozen on here. The Stafford Forum blinkers definitely seem to be aligned with another rabbit hole!

Trying to survive, mentally, physically and financially, and still feeling it!
But 'what' actually....those things are what we were all doing.....what in realistic time were YOU doing? Working? Working from home? Retired ? Furloughed? Working in the NHS? Working in retail? Working in a school? What, what were you actually doing?
