Desirable changes to the new forum...

This new "skin" is much better...I don't want to go back to the old one in 45 minutes or so. :ohno: Can see where it still needs tweaking etc but it's good!

Another thing, I think the top header bar "stafford forum" should be Stafford Forum.

That's just the font I chose; it is Stafford Forum, but it must be a 'lower-case orientated' font.

As is becoming increasingly apparent, I am no graphic designer, so I'm not brilliant at that sort of thing. If anyone is and wants to knock up a new header, they're welcome to submit ideas. :)

Did that one manually from memory Gramaisc!

Am able to get the top half of them up , but can't scroll to any of those further down .

That's purely because we have so many smilies now that they go off the bottom of the screen! You can always scroll to the top, hover over the Help tab, and choose Smilies for a full list. :)

I agree, the current layout and style is far from ideal. I am looking to address that asap, and working on a style that is easier on the eye and more efficient with space/layout. It might even be yellow, in keeping with the old Forum. ;)

Thanks for that, looking forward to it. As a bit of an idea, (if you use it) in Gmail there are options for 'Comfortable' 'Cozy' and 'Compact'. I seem to need to keep the settings on Compact in order for my brain to process the page properly, must be something to do with my speed reading habit ;) Like I say, it's something to adapt to, but if you can tweak it to a more comfortable style I, and my brain, would thank you ;)

I'm sure that I saw the avatar panel showing 'location' earlier on, but it doesn't seem to be doing it now - but, maybe I didn't..

I've got yet another telly going for free but there's no longer an obvious section for it to go in! Can the 'For Sale' forum be changed to 'For Sale/Free' please?

I may be Unræd, but i'm sure that someone said, at some point, that they were unreadily receptive to the 'nesting' of quotes. I'm fairly sure i have not been ill-counseled on this - 'nesting' had no other meaning for me, other than the obvious, prior to this.

Anyhoo - another thing i've noticed about this new forum of ours is that when you 'Reply' to what someone has said, or 'Quote' them (in imperial), you get this sort of nonsense;

"quote="Andreas Rex, post: 145733, member: 6""

before what it is that they have gone and said. The upshot of this is that when you 'Reply' to someone who has already 'Replied' to someone else, you only get their 'Reply' to which to 'Reply' to. Now, more often than not, when you 'Reply' to someone who has 'Replied' to someone else, you are usually 'Replying' not only to the subsequent 'Reply' but the initial 'Reply' to which the 'Replyee' has 'Replied' to. Otherwise it just doesn't make any sense. A bit like this post.

So let's have a quick example ^ up there staffordjas, in reply to Admin saying

Aaah- Success! Thanks Admin:)
to which one might, quite reasonably, say ah, but you've already said that that is a smiley you know from memory - what about adding a more obscure smiley to show that you have 'grasped the nettle'?
Reply to the above post and you get
Aaah- Success! Thanks Admin:)

Not - Admin said:" hover over the Help tab, and choose Smilies for a full list. :)"

It's emptied of the meaning you wish to bestow upon it.

He said, she said.

In short - bring back 'nesting'.

Would it be possible to have the date and time someone has posted at the top of their post rather than the bottom at all? When I'm scrolling quickly and trying to find where I've last read up to it doesn't stand out well being grey where it currently is and get's mixed up with people's signatures

I like the last unread post feature as that helps but when I'm switching between logging in on my phone and laptop I sometimes like to scroll back to make sure I've not missed any posts in threads I'm following

In another forum I use they have the line differenciating between posts as a small banner with the post number and the date and time which works quick well

I just click on the thread title in the "What's New" section and it automatically goes to the last unread post. On rare occasions i have to scroll back if i've missed something but it doesn't seem to cause me any major problems.

Forum software is tending away from nested quotes, preferring instead to use the multi-quote system. I personally prefer nested quotes, as per yourself, but as I say it's not a supported feature at the moment. If an add-on is released which allows it, I shall implement it, but until then we will just have to make full use of the new multi-quote system.

Editing posts is hard work an all.

This is just moving with the times, I'm afraid! Some features will seem harder than before, but that's purely because the new Forum is more feature packed and so, by nature, some functions will be more complicated as they offer you more flexibility.

Choice is over-rated. I don't want a choice of things I don't want, I just want the one thing that I do want, and I want it now.
