Desirable changes to the new forum...

I think I've attached this image correctly, so hopefully you can see that it doesn't display properly for me...
Hmm, very strange! I have just tested The Forum in IE7 and can confirm that it displays the same way as it does in your screenshot.

Which version of Internet Explorer are you using? I had (foolishly) only tested the new style in Firefox and Chrome, so wasn't even aware of this until you pointed it out! Perhaps I should add a "Best viewed in Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox..." disclaimer in the header? ;)

Let me know which version of IE you are using and I will see if I can fix the CSS incompatibility.

I have confirmed that it looks fine on Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, on both Windows and OS X. What a surprise; Internet Explorer is the only one that doesn't parse the CSS properly!

I'll see if I can find a fix. In the mean time, I would recommend anyone using IE switches to Chrome or Firefox as soon as humanly possible. ;)

Am I again the odd one out???

I am using IE8 at work, and it looks fine for me!
But I have been able to reproduce the problem.

For anyone with IE8 (don't know about IE7) with this problem: Please turn OFF the "Compatibility view mode"
(This is a small icon of a "torn" page on the top right, next to the URL bar)

.

I only get the problem if I put compatibility mode in IE8 "on".
(As I have it standard "off" and therefore didn't have a problem)

So I can confirm what my brother says.

I've switched off the Compatibility Mode - and the problem is sorted. I didn't even know I had it on. Like I've said, I use Chrome at home but IE8 is forced upon us here.

Excellent! Thanks Fonzie-NL, very handy to know.

Minor point really, but there doesn't seem to be any way of going directly to the last 'reply' of a 'conversation' after you have read it.

Would be nice if there were, but hardly worth fretting about really.

When looking at your Inbox (hover over Inbox, click on Show All) you will see a list of all your conversations. The far-right column will show you when the last post was made; simply click this date/time and it will take you to that post. :)

It's growing on me, I think I loved how compact the old forum was, I could glance at it and see everything I needed to know, but I'm starting to cope with the new layout now!

Probably not possible (at least not with ease) but I think it would be fab if the top section of the site could be locked whilst the rest of the pages scroll. This way, all of the links for "Mark forums read, What's new, Alerts" etc. could all be permanently available without having to scroll back up hill or downhill for the "Top" link. Although I can deal with it, I do find it a pain scrolling back up each time to hit "Whats new" and see the rest of the threads I've not read yet - I sometimes have to repeat this action a dozen or more times per visit.

I know what you mean. I find myself doing the following, which isn't ideal:

1) Click What's New?
2) Click the thread I want to read.
3) Once I've scrolled to the bottom and read all messages, press the Home key on my keyboard to jump to the top of the page.
4) Go to step 1.

I will see if I can implement an unobtrusive floating navbar or something similar. :)

I see that we now have 'Events' at the side of the Main Page. It seems a bit cluttered now ( to me, anyway ), is it feasible for the user to select what he wants to appear there and, maybe, to re-order what is there?..

Admin Edit: Posts moved to more applicable thread.

I am working to change it so that it only displays a single column, but it is directly linked to the Upcoming Events at the top of the Stafford Events forum, so changing one seems to change t'other. Don't worry, I'll get there in the end!

Out of interest, what do you mean by "is it feasible for the user to select what he wants to appear"? As in, how would The Forum know what you do and don't want to see? I suppose I could add an option to add tags to Event posts, and a user could then choose to only display Events with certain tags. But then, of course, one runs the risk of not seeing Events simply because the poster has neglected to tag it!

What I meant was the ability to select which of the information 'blocks' appear and in which order. I see that 'Who's Online' is now at the top, where 'Events' was when it first appeared - where I would have put it, if I'd had the choice...

As in, you would prefer to have Upcoming Events at the very top? If that's the general consensus, I'm happy to arrange it that way. :)
