Just booked a Eurotunnel Flexiplus ticket for tomorrow night. A bit short notice but planning ahead hasn't really been doable of late due to the COVID excitement.

We thought, as p jr had Thursday and Friday off as staff training days that we'd head down to our little place to the east of Aix en Provence for half term. We would normally stop for the night en route but have decided to drive the 1000 miles in one go. Will be interesting to see how the EV charging situation has improved in the two years since we last went.
Will that mean a week away from this forum ?

1000 miles in one hit, sounds ambitious in an RV, What's your estimated travel time?
Personal highs on the bike have been Reims to Stafford including the ferry and Tours, France to Wolf in Germany, both about 450 miles give or take and both full day jobs.
I remember leaving Reims shortly after 09:00 and hitting Stafford shortly after 18:00. P*ss*d it down from about Luton ish on the M1.

We're not going in the RV we're going in my car. I'm aiming to have the dogs and wife packed so that we can leave straight from juniors school at about 4. I'm expecting stops for the loos/driver change will be more frequent than recharging, so it'll just be 20mins or so of charging whilst we stop for other necessaries. Hopefully we'll arrive at about midday, local time.

Long distance trips on a bike are much more hard work, as apart from having to stop for fuel more often, you're constantly buffeted by the speed your traveling which takes it out of you. I'm hoping for a fairly relaxed trip really, followed by an afternoon of sorting the house, getting our little runabouts to start after 2 years, and nipping to the village to get supplies. Might even slip in an espresso or two at the local café before collapsing for the night.

That's the plan, anyway.

I was thinking a distance like that on a bike at this time of year could put 10 years on your clock !!! The longest bike ride I ever did was Cornwall to Edinburgh, only half that distance. That was in midsummer and on a pretty fast bike. When I got to the hotel and parked up it was a couple of pints and then a 10 hour zonk out. (I was considerably younger then.)

Sorry misunderstood, just re read your post and can't see how I got the idea you're using the RV.
Enjoy the break.

Indeed, as on this one, but with a VII, not a mere II.

Do it!

It'll make home feel that much better when you get back...

I remember a radio programme years ago about people who had deliberately horrible holidays for that reason- they once had a fortnight on a trawler off Iceland.
Sounds like my parents idea of a good holiday....

Yesterday the carer tried to convince me we need a week away in Wales in November.... I'm not convinced.
I'm going to Llandudno for 3 nights in December but that's only cos I haven't seen the sea for I don't know how long, plus the Manics are playing and I'm also catching up with some Manics friends from Yorkshire and Brighton.

The rest of the time I shall be paddling, riding the donkeys and eating ice cream 😂
