How do people afford houses in this day and age?

Picture 2, someone's bricked up the door to the lounge, must've taken the photo' through the window.

There seems to be a notice on the front door, which may lead one to suspect that this may be being sold as a result of a repossession.

Urgh! You'd need to spend another £20k redecorating so that you didn't throw up every time you went home!

Had a look at it the other day, do not use tape over everything and the garden is tiny. Its not a very big house anyway, but with the lack of garden I'm amazed they want so much for it. I know its detached, but who cares when your neighbours are that close anyway!

Im currently paying £475.00 a month in rent. So in theory im saving £477.00 per month.
As Gramaisc said, what will your rent be in 25 years time? Just had a look at my mortgage and see it will be paid off in 14 months time so will then be paying £000.00 per month for the rest of my natural.
Sorry if this sounds smug, it's not meant that way, just showing another side of the 'rent or buy' coin.

I would love to buy a house, but since too many incompetent f*ckwitts over-loaded on credit, the 100% mortgage is temporarily dead :(
Pity, as I only finished uni when the credit crunch truly kicked in.

Selfish b*stards :(

Anyone wanna lend me £15k for a deposit? :)

I'm inclined to agree with that, for several years there have been many frequent reports from varying sources, each stating that our housing stock is overvalued.

We've not long bought our first house but it wasn't easy getting a mortgage. Even with £15k to put down and getting the house £15k below valuation we couldn't find anyone willing to offer us a mortgage on our own. This was due to myself being self employed and my gf on a 1 years contract. In the end we had to have parents act as guarantors (spelling?) but it did mean we didn't have to put any money down as the £15k purchase to valuation price difference was gifted to us for our deposit.

You'd have to be clinically insane to want to move there, surely?

EDIT: Before people start whining about eliteism I lived on Barnes Road for over a year and it was a shithole, the whole area is a total abomination.

well, me & the missus have pretty much resigned ourselves to the fact that we may well never own a house, which is a shame.. we like some of the benefits renting affords us (flexibility, reduced responsibility for maintenance, etc.) but the only real bugbear that comes back to us time & time again is the fact that we can never make a place feel like "home" because we can't really make any serious modifications (e.g. put a new kitchen in).. i mean, we could - i'm sure our landlord would love it if we paid for a new kitchen for her - but clearly we're not going to when we don't own the place..

ah well, them's the breaks..

Even the "worst" places in Stafford don't have a patch on places like Stoke or Wolverhampton...I suppose it's just what people are used to lol.

Anyone who thinks it's a bad area should go and live in London for a while!!!

True. When in Southampton people were amazed I dared to live in such a scutty area, I thought the place was great and the locals really friendly! Southern shandy drinkers ;)
