So it’s in the council’s best interest for people not to claim their receipt.

How convenient, I wonder if it was a selling point.
Not sure about that, plenty of people pay for longer than 2 hours, but only get 2hrs back....probably more people than pay fir one or two hours

I used the machine by EoO today, bearing in mind I'm still getting used to this ruddy phone, don't think I did too bad. My only complaint is, there didn't seem to be a sticky bit to fasten the ticket to the window. You get the car ticket, Sainsburys one and a receipt for your records. Seems a lot of paper just to park the car.

Odd, I only got 2… the ticket and the voucher. The receipt is optional and I did say yes, guess it didn’t spit one out though

I can't remember pressing owt to get a receipt. But knowing me, I probably paid for everyone following me. I don't like technology.

Ys, saisburys claim the parking back off the council...1.10 for an hour, or 1.70 for 2 hrs
So it must be the council tax we pay that funds the council managing that car park while Sainsbury's makes extra money from their customers who park there.

Imagine how the town would thrive if they ditched the parking charges. I remember when Cannock had free parking, you had to drive around for a while to find a space. ie. Very busy car park which the council people saw as "Oh no, we need charges to manage the situation". When they introduced the charges the car parks were a lot quieter. Market stalls closed, rents raised to cover the shortfall. Markets and high street a shadow of its former self. The pit closing was bad enough for the area.

Free car parking is a utopian dream, especially in cash-strapped Stafford and Cannock. Just accept that you have to pay your money for the service you receive.

Or use one of the many, many free alternatives.
Yep plenty of short stay free parking. There is no actual longer stay free parking. “Tesco” “Asda” I hear you say. Technically they are not free as you are supposed to be a customer and therefore spend money instore. But we all know that doesn’t always happen.

And I should have included the word ‘everywhere’ after parking in my post.

I don't pay the money because I don't use the service. Simple as that. I go to out of town shops where I can park free and where the stores are larger with more choice. Not the half-dead high street with nothing of anything I need.

Even the out of town shops are becoming a waste of time. I went to B&Q and wanted a lawn roller and some top soil (the fun of having greyhounds digging and chewing up the lawn with their zoomies). They had neither so Amazon got the order. Checked website again when I got back and the B&Q website said the roller was in-stock, well it wasn't on the shelves and they wouldn't deliver!

Which results in you getting a fine for leaving the site on foot.
