Pity someone like LLFC couldn't have rescued Baswich House and the old Brooklands School instead of leaving Stafford'sfew remaining heritage assets to the council's planning clowns, who only care about maximising income from new homes.

PPPP I'm afraid your criticism of SBC's planning department is unfounded. The planning department do not care about maximising profits through the development of new homes, however that is the motivation of the landowner and developer. The planning department can seek to try and influence the proposed development during the planning process, however they can't dictate to the landowner or developer as to how they should or shouldn't develop their land or buildings and any decision they make must be based on planning grounds.

I thought that SBC were to receive £500 (approx) for every New Build, thought they based their budget in this income, but then I could be wrong?

Ah, if only we lived in your world. Unfounded? For a start, you must realise that any council led for years by someone with a vested interest in property and land has zero credibility. Beyond that, your own website (sorry, I mean the council's website) also has plenty of damning evidence that Stafford planners apply rules on a selective basis. Check it out with the Ombudsman or Hansard.

I'm going to echo my first posting in this thread, I like the place, it looks good!

Still yet to go in, I've no reason to, I do all my complaining through this forum or email those that work in the building (or not), as the case may be.

My opinion is based on fact and professional knowledge. Yes, Local Planning Authorities do get additional council tax from new properties, as well as funding from the New Homes Bonus, S106 agreements and Community Infrastructure Levy. However, all of us benefit from this additional money. The planning department do not receive incentives for granting planning consents, there is 'no brown envelope' or yearly bonus for the planning officers for approving or refusing planning schemes. The planning department make decisions (or recommendations) based on their professional expertise.

If your questioning the integrity of some councillors that sit on various committees, including the planning committee, then I would agree with you that some of those individuals have suspect motives. However, you shouldn't tar the planning department (and the hard working officers) with the same dirty brush.

I do not work for the Council, nor have I ever done so, therefore, to suggest otherwise is (again) unfounded.

You can get an APP on your mobile phone which allows you to calculate how much money council's across the UK receive from the new homes bonus. The new homes bonus is not ringfenced, therefore, the money received by the Local Planning Authority can be spent on everything the council deem appropriate. This is addition to the S106 contributions which are paid towards specific things, for example education, health, public open space, public art, leisure etc...

The planners supply their own tar on a regular basis, unfortunately. Hard to believe there isn't something seriously wrong when two (or is it three?) people have committed suicide in the same department.

To kill yourself over a job is heartbreaking, I've always fended for myself but I will use the safety net should I ever need to. The logical thing to end under those circumstances is the job.

I agree, I'm glad I have a firm grasp on what I have to endure for my salary. I'm starting to question its worth, I suspect changes are afoot.

There have been 2 suicides in the department. I have had dealings with both of the officers that have committed suicide. They were excellent, hard working officers. The planning officers are not the problem. It is the circumstances that they are working under which needs to be addressed, which I think we both agree on.

Typical dismissive 'not our fault' reaction from council.

Amusing to see the same bits of cladding still missing on one side and fences in the middle. Have the doors collapsed again?

Fencing is there to the new library and further extension of the post room of the ground floor in the building opposite. The cladding you reference has never been there for whatever reason, its like nobody noticed

Enjoying a drop of red.

Post room?!!!!

SCC do realise that we are now in the 21st century do they. A world in which email is now old-hat, never mind actual post. Still, always handy to have brown envelopes at the ready, when you work for a council, I suppose...
