Isn't bacon supposed to be the only known cure for vegetarianism?

Irresistible Urges.
About one in five of our participants had developed an irresistible urge to taste cooked flesh once more. This occurred even among some long-term vegetarians. Participants talked about their protein cravings or how the smell of sizzling bacon would drive them crazy. One, for example, said "I just felt hungry all the time and that hungerwould not be satisfied unless I ate meat." Another described his return to meat in mathmatical terms:
Starving college student + First night back home with the folks + Fifty or so blazin' buffalo wings waiting in the kitchen = Surrender.

Point taken over the Gummy Bears, however lots of our customers choose both our vegetarian and vegan dishes whilst enjoying a flexitarian diet, with hindsight however an alternative to the Gummy Bears might be a better post dinner bill accompaniment - i'm sure our Forumites will have some witty solutions to this predicament. Thanks for the feedback
Chris

Assuming you want to keep the sweet theme, here is a site that lists some big accidentally vegan brands

Along similar theme to the gummy bears, there are Jelly Tots and skittles ?

Thanks for this, I'm sure Jelly Tots used to contain gelatine :/. Can now eat them, happy days!!

Be aware though when using that site, if anyone is being veggie/vegan for environmental reasons, most processed biscuits have palm oil in and this is netiher good for ourselves or the rainforest of Borneo, or the Orang Utans who we are pushing quite quickly to extinction because of said palm oil!

I was wondering whether to start to include images of the industry, you know the type; what it takes to get cattle to slaughter, what it takes to produce a meat burger; some behind the scenes at farms type stuff etc etc.

I know this played a part in why i turned vegan, i was unaware until i saw the right videos and the right pics and listened to the right video clips, i know of one particular image/video clip that made me switch, so wondered if any of the vegan lot here think the images "help" those nonvegans gain the empathy it takes to go vegan?

I'd include some lovely pics of animals enjoying life though too (doesn't help as much in my eyes, nothing like a bit of suffering to make people see sense), and why we should treat all animals equally, not just the domesticated ones.

To gauge the response (although it's my thread i can do as i please, as long as the powers that be at Stafford Forum allow it obvs), what's peoples thoughts?

a) include them here
b) start a new thread (with a snazzy catchy title) for the appalling unappealing stuff

I've got to the stage where i feel i should do a little more, to the cause, this could help people become vegan and have the vegan power!

Will meat eaters want to see the reality of the cruelty they inflict? From my experience most of them don't care, or don't want to know! I did however also see a video just before christmas about baby male calves that shocked me to the core, and that's someone who knew about the cruelty :(

MEat eaters, what do you think?

Just had a nice vegan meal at Verso sadly let down by them bringing Helmanns when I requested mayo. Given that both meals we ordered were vegan this was a bit of a surprise and it's clear they don't really understand the vegan thing or they would have brought vegan mayo or explained that they didn't have a vegan mayo option. Appreciated the vegan menu though and the food was tasty if rather small portions.

Had you explained to them that you were vegan as you were ordering your meal?

it's probably worth doing so so that they communicate this to other members of staff, maybe noting it against your table number or something.

I didn't categorically single us out as vegan, but ordered 2 meals off the exclusively vegan menu so expected them to at least ask the question re the mayo given our order.

It sounds like the default position should be that only vegans eat meals off the vegan menu, which I think is rather sad.

I'm a fussy bugger. I don't eat cheese, and it seems today (especially at Italian restaurants) that everything comes with its fair share of cheese. So despite being a meaty, I usually check out the veggie/vegan items and, if any took my fancy, I'd have no problem ordering it (to be fair, it may be the only port in a storm, I'm that fussy). Maybe I should point out to whoever serves us that I'm not a veggie/vegan.

Post a link, with a description on a new thread.
It's a difficult one, there's right video clips and pictures and then there's wrong video clips and pictures, all depends on the viewer.
I've seen many clips and documentaries and pictures throughout my life, most didn't affect me (seems as it took me this long to become a non animal consumer), i guess it was down to my age and further new found empathy aswell as it being simply just my time to become a vegan. Mostly the right images at the time though.

It's a fine line between pi55ing those off that are already vegan and no longer need to see the torture and those meat-heads who'll defend their actions whatever you show them, or those that are who may need a gentle (or not so gentle depending on the image) reminder to why they are vegan and those that are on the cusp of becoming vegan.

How about this one? i've kept it thumbnail-y so click if you dare!
It's like these kids have been forced to go to our fairground without wanting to buy a ticket, or even go!!
It's the worst ride at the Theme Park, ...more Cruel Ride at the Murder Park.
Look at the kids behind the gate and they're next. Can you imagine the noise and smell here?

Not sure what you are trying to achieve by showing such clips to be honest apart from the shock/horror moment.

Do the pictures on cigarette packets or the drink drive car crash clips really work? They don't in my opinion.

I am totally against animal cruelty but I am also a meat eater. That's not to say I'm against what you are campaigning for but I don't believe your shock tactics will influence me to be honest.

Anyway each to their own and feel free to post what you feel you need to.

(and me! - Ed)
For me it's just that it makes more sense to eat plant prorien than feed it to animals so they can convert it to protien for us to.........mmm.......eat. and I definitely don't want to hunt wildlife!.! Ok I take the point about it maybe tasting better?? We don't need to, animal farming is in an awful state, so I choose not to eat/wear what it produces. I believe I am healthier for it. I will tell people why if they want to know, but I am not interested in spreading the word, though am glad it seems to be. Will leave evangelising to those younger with more energy! (& real bollocks pentioner! ED )

I thought it was clear what i was trying to achieve, i guess i need to be more obvious to some.

Do the pictures on cigarette packets or the drink drive car crash clips really work? They do in my opinion, but then i don't know the stats.

How can you be totally against animal cruelty but still eat them? that doesn't make sense and isn't possible.
Clearly for you, the image i posted wasn't the one for you, they'll be one that is though. I was the same, i said so in my post, i'm not blaming you, there was images that i never took notice of and continued to eat animals, until one day an image got me, that's all.

Go and take another look, imagine if that were dogs or cats; or pandas; or meerkats; or orangutan on that hook, any of the classic fluffier types, still no shifting hopperman?

Thanks.

I've taken the liberty of taking a look at some stats, sure beats opinions.
This is interesting (IMO).

Shows that without intervention (whatever level of intervention that may be) there's every chance something that does need changing doesn't change. What i mean is; invention was needed, intervention was taken and this lead to a decline in smoking numbers.
This shows intervention equals decline.
