aldi breach half of planning conditions

Called in the Wildwood Co-op on the way home just to get my Strongbows . Carpark nearly empty and the shop inside was even more quiet than normal. Can see it dying a death!
If the Co-op reviews it's pricing and realigns with Aldi then all well and good, but I fear this self-proclaimed ethical company is far too arrogant to do that.

The Wildwood store, in particular, urgently need to train their staff in what constitutes good customer service. They are employed to serve us. We are not there, spending money in order to fit around when they decide to end their conversations between themselves, or to put up with the terminal grumpiness of some of the older staff.

Can't beat a bit of competition.

Co-op always have higher prices, I can't see it changing.
Which is as it should be. It's a local store for local people. I'm quite happy to pay a bit extra if it saves me a trip into town (especially with the recent roadworks).

Given that Aldi will also save me that trip into town (I'm on Baswich so they're all within walking distance, weather permitting and if I'm feeling energetic), I guess we may see an adjustment of prices at the Co-Ops.

Same here !

I'd walked down the last couple of days and got a few items but did my main shop there this morning. Nice wide spaces in the car park (A stupid woman in a big blue thing still had to have 3 goes at getting in the massive space next to me, and still parked over the white line! ). Not so busy this morning and we had a nice relaxing shop having a good look around at all the different things. Hubby normally hates shopping and can't wait to get out of the shops, but we came out ,still stress free , with a trolley load and could have spent a lot more if we'd got a bigger fridge and freezer.

Hubby impressed with his 8 yr old Whisky he popped in and bought last night. Says it's better than some of the Malts.

Popped in a bit ago. Car parking spaces are quite generous. Had a look at the general items/gardening stuff and can't say I was impressed with the prices, compared to say Lidl. Bought some of the whisky and can confirm it's rather nice stuff for day to day use. Stocked up on various different bottles of red wine I haven't tried before and will be sampling them over the coming days. Food wise it's pretty much the same as Lidl. Staff were much friendlier than at Coop. Assuming everything tastes OK (and it does at Lidl so I can see little reason why it won't here, then I can't see myself troubling Coop any more for the sake of travelling an extra 3/4 of a mile.

I was impressed with the friendliness of the staff as well. Got me wishing I'd applied for job there myself, they seem such a good team !

We went in on Saturday to get our veg for the Sunday lunch but ended up with a trolley full.

Judging by the expensive cars on the car park it is appealing to all kinds not just "those on a budget" as someone on here said.

So we bought wine and prosecco, pino grigio and Sauvignon Blanc. What we have tried so far has been excellent.

Fresh veg..big bag of red onions 39p, big bag of carrotts 39p.

We bought the pretend Sweppes Lemonade for 35p and the OH said it was better than the real thing.
The same goes for the pretend pringles.

Bought some lovely sea bass for a couple of quid and the monkfish was very reasonable too.

There are still some things that I can't get (benecol margarine) but it will be my main port of call for my big shop.

I don't really like spending more than I have too when I don't need to.

I love Sainsburys but we bought much the same on Saturday as we usually buy and it was about £50 cheaper.

We had a nice British pork joint for a fiver. One of the best joints we've ever had. Tried their apple sauce and frozen roast potatoes as well and pleased with them.

Disappointed there weren't any sweet Chilli Chicken portions left today....should have bought a freezer full the other day! Got addicted after the six packs devoured since the store opened :D

There are usually, lots of expensive cars seen on a Aldi or a Lidl car park it's mostly the people with money who do shop there particularly well off pensioners. Saving £50 on your shopping makes a massive difference, it would be good to know if you notice any difference in the quality? I plan to do my shop there next week and if it's as good quality to my normal shop I'll be there on a regular basis.

I don't mind you saying it was me :)

I might take a look at it if I am passing on my way into Stafford but if there are any more roadworks I will take an alternative route.

Always amuses me - ten pages of how disgusting Aldi is for the horrible things they are doing ignoring planning laws but - as soon as they open - how great they are and how fantastic it is to be saving money and how the ethical Co-Op deserves to close.

I know it's early but this gets my "post of the day" award.

No one has said that they werent going to use it, I think this thread was more of a commentary than anything.
Typical Stafford people (and the whole country I suppose) - we will stamp our feet, moan and complain, try and get others to shoot our bullets but, at the end of the day, we will just roll over and do as we are expected to do -we certainly won't do anything to hurt the feelings (or pockets) of those we are moaning about, that would be un-British and if it saves us a few quid - who needs morals or ethics? I'll bet the people who did the most moaning are first in the queue - no wonder companies ignore planning regulations. The only way the Council will ever do anything is if it actually affects the personal life of a Councillor.

As I said, No big deal for me, just amuses me how we are all so malelable.
