So our immoral council have money for a road to only increase car usage, but no money for the care of our elderly and needy. They can all go f*ck themselves as far as I'm concerned :(

but isnt this road going to be self funding how much money is 3000 new houses this road allows to be built going to generate per year. the national dept is still getting bigger. we need to learn to live within our means. from a goverment level they need to spend less or raise taxes or both. where should the axe fall. social care is protected to an extent as they heave to meet certin legal commitments.

They may be less bothered about increased car usage than making as-yet-unbuilt housing units look more accessible to potential purchasers..?

Says someone who has clearly never tried to find a care home for the elderly (that actually gives a damn) that falls within the budget the council provide per person. Legal commitments there may be, but I can assure you that no care home in Stafford provides a decent standard of care for the miserly weekly amount the council will pay, and I know cos I visited every miserable piss smelling one of em :(.

*No offence if you have unfortunately found yourself in this terrible position

The old "more roads means more traffic" argument always puzzles me! Is there somebody sat in a factory saying, "they've built another road, we best get some more cars made!"
This road is literally happening on my doorstep so I do have views on it - the plans have changed since they were first drawn up and now the road has move slightly further back, the sound barrier of trees and grass banking has grown in size and people also seem to forget, or ignore, when this road goes in, all of the land to the north of the road will be handed back to wildlife rather than retained as car parking.
The Castletown residents group has been to meetings with the council as it is they/us that will be most affected and points have been taken on board from both parties. Some Doxey Road houses will be monitored during the works and have also taken part in the noise and vibration studies.
I feel that, unlike the rugby club development, this scheme has had some proper consultation rather than just pushed through at a political level.

You don't need to have more vehicles to have more traffic. There are places that I don't drive because it's just too much aggro to do so. Traffic is about vehicle use. A parked vehicle (that is not obstructing the highway) is having no input into 'traffic'.

But there is a natural ceiling at which point vehicle use will no longer increase. there is no way to reduce this ceiling without putting measures in place that get people out of there vehicles either voluntarily or forced I.e better / cheaper public service provision. or pricing people off the road I.e higher taxes or allowing congestion to get so bad people don't think it worthwhile using there vehicles

Be the change you want to see

Dunno where that originates, but I like it, and try to live my life by it!

Gandhi..?

Though, this seems to be the nearest thing that he definitely said "If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. ... We need not wait to see what others do."

Overheard a staff member in Sainsburys stating that the company may be in the market for building a petrol station at the Stafford store given the road development....
