I wonder what percentage of men aren't sexist to some degree? Or racist, fattist, gingerist, southist, northist, stokist, scousist, next doorist. Add ists to your heart's content. Not many one suspects.
What I find amusing is that Gray and Keys have worked for Sky for 20 years, commentating, judging, talking on what alot of people see as a passionate game. Yet, not a whiff of scandal, or many ill placed words/views in that time. Thats quite an effort really over such a time span mostly doing live TV. It reminds me of going on a speed awareness course once after being a naughty boy and there being this old fella of about 80, who'd been caught doing 45 in some roadworks. All he kept saying was "50 effing years, 50 effing years, one effing mistake and i'm sat here!" lol

Just to clarify, of course toooldtorock (and, indeed, anyone) is very much entitled to voice their opinions here, which is exactly what he is doing. :)

I thought he was fired over previous incidents that had also come to light?

If his contract says its against the rules, and he did it, its a sackable offence. No other way to look at this?

It is though a football crowd NOT the workplace and banter is there aplenty eeerrrrrrr and swearwords, and threats, and fighting, and pissing in peoples pockets, and abusing coppers and other fans, hiding in toilets on trains so you don't have to pay, and breaking seats and smashing toilets. Oh and errrr, questioning the ref's parentage and whether ya mam takes it up the sh....... oh that'll do! ;)

The point Jenksie was making here was not really helped by the heavy line break and convoluted composition,

Put like that i think it's fair enough.

is a fair one.
That may be your interpretation, and I dare say that was Jenksie's intention. However, with the full-stop and multiple carriage returns, one can hardly blame toooldtorock for thinking Jenksie was saying:

No, it's entirely understandable, but i'm pretty sure he wasn't actually saying you are not entitled to voice them.

You are, however, quite right and i should probably butt out.

I had thought i was being a bridge over troubled waters - but it is possible i am confusing myself with someone else.

One question that seems to be missing here is - Why on earth would some young girl want to do that job? And another come to think of it - Andy Gray gets sacked but have Liverpool sacked the 3000 scousers standing behind her and giving her stick for 90 minutes? (which is of course is their right cos they paid their money you know! If she can put up with that then i'm sure she can handle a tongue in cheek comment.
More importantly I notice Karen Brady won't be at Birmingham tonight. Perhaps there's some kind of border between Birmingham and London these days and West Mids plod are currently preparing the extradition papers and/or the snatch squad somewhere near Corley services. ;)
Why shouldn't she? She hasn't complained about her treatment at all and seems to want to be left alone to do her job- a job she presumably loves and is very good at or she wouldn't have got this far.

This seems to be the crux of the issue- toooldtorock has made a similar comment that this is no place for a woman. Well, thanks guys for making the decision for her. I'm sure all those years of hard work and training count for nothing now you've decided she shouldn't be next to a pitch. Obviously her opinion doesn't matter, or the fact SHE hasn't actually made a complaint about the behaviour of fans or commentators. Of course, a stadium isn't a suitable place for a woman at all is it? Perhaps they should all just stay at home preparing tea.

There is a difference between people in their leisure time abusing a linesman in the passion of a game and a professional commentator abusing a linesman because she's a girl. Why can't you people seem to understand that there is a huge difference between what you can say in a pub (while surrounded by your agreeable mates) and what you can say in the workplace? Where people do get away with blatant sexism in the workplace it seems to only be because no-one had the nerve to complain.
Oh, and I'm not talking about 'banter' here either, banter is fine so long as all involved know it is not serious.

The press storm surrounding this situation has not been stoked up by the woman and I suspect her removal from the game last night was due to pressure from her bosses and not a request from herself.

The thing is, you are entitled to sexist opinions and you are even allowed to voice them. What you are not allowed to do is a) actually act on them or b) make a female colleague uncomfortable with lewd comments. Gray did b) explicitly and his underlying attitude is what afflicts many people who (whether they know it or not) perform a)... hence the massive gap in pay and positions for women in business.

Don't think I've anything to do with making a decision for her, still no place for a woman. I do have views on this, but I would never ever actually act in an offensive manner which could be deemed sexist and would never make a female colleague uncomfortable. What I would say is we are equal but we are different and that difference should be embraced not seen as a target for the PC brigade to erase.

Just on the point of difference.....I remember being in an establishment with a high profile PC ethic, resulting in no Ladies or Gents WC's, but shared cubicle facilities, which the women wouldn't use (they told me they waited till they got home?), because men had used them....is that sexism/equality?? What next gays in the army?

I think the question is more why would anyone at all want to do that job - i sure as shoot wouldn't !

Some people are willing to have the word 'mini' tattooed on their

, others are willing to run the line of a football ground for an hour and a half taking the most extraordinary amounts of verbal crap thrown at them - go figure?

Ah, the beautiful game!
