Aldi to open in stafford

They've always been great at the one on the stone road, guess I'm lucky!
At Burton Manor the other day, none of the three staff on the counter could apparently cope with a parcel collection. Then had to wait while they called someone over the tannoy. Some minutes later, a not very bright assistant appeared and fetched the parcel. He then refused to hand over the parel because of a "computer sez no" situation with collection code. After leaving and telephoning Collect+ we sorted a code to go back with and he handed the parcel over. I was all for taking the parcel from the counter first time round, since you can't steal your own property... The only amusement came some days later when an email arrived saying the parcel "had not been collected" so Collect+ would be returning it to the retailer. Bet that was interesting when the Co-op couldn't produce the parcel when the courier went to collect it for a return....

On the other hand, Thoroughgoods (or however it is spelt) next to The Royal Oak are fine with parcels.

Yes, Yes, Yes

It will save me going to Rugeley or Cannock and at last some competition for the abundance of Co-op stores

I understood that there was a condition on the Co-op taking over the Wildwood store that they would close another in the vicinity, but I am not aware of this happening.

I didn't realise that the Co-op also owns the post-office on Bodmin Avenue, until I found out a lad I know worked in there actually had his wages paid by the co-op.......

Just received a letter through the post about the new proposed Aldi at Queensville.

Quotes on it include:

Net sales area of 1140 square metres mainly for food goods and s smaller range of non-food goods.
82 Parking spaces with 90 minutes free parking
Up to 30 full and part time jobs
Access achieved via Queensville - The proposals will replace the multiple access points to the site with a new two way junction to serve the food store. This access will be taken from Queensville, but appropiately distanced from Windsor road to ensure there is no impact on this area of the local road network.

Attractive landscaping incorporated into the scheme with a mix of tree and shrub planting.

(That will be to sit and admire whilst waiting in the traffic jams  )

The store and the post office on Bodmin - and they still had the store by the church on Baswich Lane the last time I looked.

It seems more than a bit bizarre to insist that Aldi pay to fix problems that have existed for years, without any input from them.

It's fair enough to expect their development to include works intended to avoid worsening the situation, but the current fiasco is not their responsibility.

The 50 pence congestion charge for Stafford was introduced in 2022

It helped to re open the New Shire Hall sponsored by Puntstretcher in the disused telephone exchange but did little to stop congestion

Interesting article in the Staffs newsletter re this:

http://www.staffordshirenewsletter....-fix-traffic/story-20479290-detail/story.html

Interesting as SBC Planning / highways say there isn't a problem with traffic on this side of town and continue to accept new housing developments without improving the road network.

Admitting there's a problem would mean they would have to fix I guess. They've know there's a problem, but they've been refusing to accept it for years.

But how do you fix the problem? Lights on the island?
There already are lights... The pedestrian crossings if you watch, automatically go to red with no one there to hold traffic back from the island to allow traffic from other approaches onto it...

Perhaps there could be a button by the driver's window on the exit from the Meadows? Or a detector loop?

Well the Kentucky has been empty for a few years and there is a detached house next to it for sale as well. Also some of the other buildings are showing their age and although I'd imagine the ownership is piecemeal, the area is ripe for redevelopment.
I looked into buying that house when I was looking around for a property, but at £230,000, laughed and moved on.

Apparently it has such a high value as it can be used as a business premise... erm, it's in a dire state, literally falling to bits and is gonna need at least £50,000 to bring it up to scratch. No business is gonna buy that dump. Even as a house, in its current state, it's worth a top price of around £90,000 and that's pushing it.

Oh... there's been a slight reduction again. Quick, grab a bargain....
