rofl As a "god botherer" i love this term.....:tek-monkey said:......god botherers.....
Whilst I agree with Gramsiac in that yes evolution has certainly been proven beyond all reasonable doubt and as far as I'm concerned, and by the sound of it most people, it's a done deal. However Tek is right, there are still people out there unfortunate enough to have been brainwashed by their peerage in believing that all these obscenely intelligent and well read people are wrong and that in fact god created everything with a flick of his wrist and the word abracadabra (which, incidentally, I have no idea how to spell lol).tek-monkey said:Depends who you believe, an awful lot of god botherers still insist its fake. You may have the basis of a very interesting religion there.... Imagine the theme park!shoes said:in fact god created everything with a flick of his wrist
Oh dear. Now as a sinner i can say, hand on heart, i believe in god and the christian faith and most of all i came to god of my choice, and not because i was told to believe.shoes said:Therefore I think research into evolution should continue until the god botherers realise the error in simply believing something because you're told to.
Luckily I think the local populace are a tad more inclined towards evolution (or just don't care). Not sure I've actually ever met anyone that doesn't believe in it TBHGramaisc said:
Well if I was that powerful I'd be a tad pissed off at someone bothering me cos they want to pass a driving test/win the lottery/destroy all infidels! Do you believe in evolution?djstaffs said:rofl As a "god botherer" i love this term.....:tek-monkey said:......god botherers.....
OK, will have to give that a watch later! I'm sure I've heard an argument against evolution based on the fact that some creatures are so specialised that no freak accident could have caused them - despite the fact they are so specialised at surviving in a very specific environment that all animals that couldn't adapt would have died.Furbal said:Don't know if anyone else saw Charlie Brookers quiz show thingamy the other week....had a clip of some "god botherers" in the US proving the God exists because of bananas. Can't believe they actually thought they had a logical arguement.

I agree with you in as much as there is no proof that god doesn't exist, however there is no proof he does, so its all a bit of a stalemate.djstaffs said:Oh dear. I also belieave in evolution. Which does pose a dilema for me, how to manage my faith and also the plain truth and eveidence. But i dont think that means god doesnt exsist. Nor do i have the answers. If i did i would be god
But i still like "god botherer" :
Part of the PR problem for religion is that there are so many people who believe all sorts of things and bend the bible to meet their needs. To answer your sepcific question no i dont think it is common but possibly another example of making things fit to our lives, changing the facts so the facts support the way they want to live rather than living a life according to what you say you believe.tek-monkey said:Out of interest, I have met a few Christians who regard the old testament as a book of stories to guide people, rather than actual fact. Is this common?
How right you are lol and is also one of the reasons that kept me away form religion for so long. The minority ones with the more extreame views tend to be the ones with the biggest voices and most heard.shoes said:You're average god botherer of course is as open minded as the next man, the real problems, as ever, lie with people who take it all a bit too literally! If you have a google about (and it won't take long) you'll find some hilarious conversations between extreme creationists and non-believers.
Yep. And i know which one is right : lol i think the basic premise of most religions is the same, worship god and live right. Around that different religions have built certain ceremonies and even today these are changed so the style differs greatly, but the substance does (or should)stay the same.tek-monkey said:I think thats what has always annoyed me, but I'm kind of a black or white person. Either the bible is gods word and you should live by it strictly, or its merely a guide book to be updated as necessary. You can't say one part is divine communication if another is merely a story. Then of course there are multiple religions, some with multiple gods, so the majority of worshipers must be wrong as they don't believe in each others gods. Only one can be right according to most religions.
I believe Bernard Mathews has already completed a similar project...tek-monkey said:
