I'm all in favour of roundabouts personally. It's quite simple, give way to traffic from the right. No four three dimensional calculus, quantum physics or wormholes lined with exotic matter necessary. :shifty:😜

Yes, I've done Swindon's a few times. The aerial photos make it look quite daunting, but it's reasonably straightforward.
It's just a small ring-road with mini-roundabout junctions.

If it was a bit bigger and there was something in the middle that stopped you seeing the far side, nobody would be bothered by it, but it does look like a roundabout where you can go in both directions.

Whilst sat at the lights to turn left into Lidl watched two cars come from Lidl and cut across in front of people coming from Halfords.
It doesn't help with the hump in the centre.
Also saw there is a yellow box but not sure of its purpose where it is.

Just looked from the bus window on Foregate and it looks like the yellow hatching is only on the Halfords side i.e. coming from Doxey/Screwfix to Foregate side.
Correct but I think that the box (or not) is just clouding the issue, it is there to stop traffic that is coming off the new road blocking the junction as they head to foregate, it is the junction itself that so many are having an issue with as they must be imagining that the roundabout is still there so will just carry on as normal (when all of a sudden opps!)

I've not heard back from SCC yet, since having let them know about the problems reported via here. I've driven it twice now. Once in daylight from Newport Road and it was fine. This afternoon, during dark rush hour, I did the reverse journey. It took blinking ages to turn right at Halfords to get going on this new road. I could've been almost to Sainsbury's by the time I'd waited! I thought it would be a fabulous time saver, but perhaps it won't be, at that time of day anyway.

One criticism of the new road is the right turn from Foregate Street is the same length as it was before swar was built and is too small for the increased traffic with traffic backing up in to the straight on lane. This is before chell road is closed or thousands of houses are built.

I can't see how they could have made it any longer to be honest.

No not cheaply anyway would involve making the footpath slightly narrower. the current plan to discourage through traffic using chell road could turn forgate Street into the new Lichfield rd

How hard can anticipating these things and joining the dots be by supposed planning experts, assuming some were employed on this multi million pound project? 😬

Stuck for 3 light changes getting out of the Halfords junction today and when I did the car opposite cut in front with no indicators

Enjoying a drop of red.

All the evidence would point to the fact that it's been a very long time indeed since any 'experts' have been involved in anything to do with the roads in and around Stafford.

I can't see how they could have made it any longer to be honest.

They could extend the right turn lane past the BP garage (would also stop people taking the shortcut into the garage). There is already a painted divider they could partially replace with kerbs and tarmac.

But it wouldn't increase capacity much. Unless they change the light sequence to favour the right turn more.

As the traffic increases they could alter the light sequence so that the centre lane could be straight on or right

That could add interest - if people using the centre lane want to go to Halfords and people using the current filter lane want to go to Lidl. (If the bit down to the Lidl/Halfords junction is two-lane, that is)

Anyway, the reality is that the 'user experience' is not a long way up the list of criteria that matters to 'them'.

There is and will continue to be a lot of foot traffic that has to be catered for, at all, of these junctions.
So as pedestrians are now higher up the list of priority’s…….. ?

Yes the section of road off Foregate Street is two lanes. The right lane merges into the left lane after the lights on the new section of road.

They need to sort out the crossing on Foregate Street in front of Bamboo Garden. The damn thing self cancels part way through the light sequence, and can take 2-3 attempts to get the green light to cross.
