Yes, I've done Swindon's a few times. The aerial photos make it look quite daunting, but it's reasonably straightforward.I did Swindon's magic roundabout a few times in the 70s - no problem, if you can trust other people - imagine how long you would be there with traffic lights...
It's just a small ring-road with mini-roundabout junctions.Yes, I've done Swindon's a few times. The aerial photos make it look quite daunting, but it's reasonably straightforward.
Just looked from the bus window on Foregate and it looks like the yellow hatching is only on the Halfords side i.e. coming from Doxey/Screwfix to Foregate side.Pretty certain there was by 17:40 yesterday.

Correct but I think that the box (or not) is just clouding the issue, it is there to stop traffic that is coming off the new road blocking the junction as they head to foregate, it is the junction itself that so many are having an issue with as they must be imagining that the roundabout is still there so will just carry on as normal (when all of a sudden opps!)Just looked from the bus window on Foregate and it looks like the yellow hatching is only on the Halfords side i.e. coming from Doxey/Screwfix to Foregate side.
I can't see how they could have made it any longer to be honest. One criticism of the new road is the right turn from Foregate Street is the same length as it was before swar was built and is too small for the increased traffic with traffic backing up in to the straight on lane. This is before chell road is closed or thousands of houses are built.
No not cheaply anyway would involve making the footpath slightly narrower. the current plan to discourage through traffic using chell road could turn forgate Street into the new Lichfield rd
All the evidence would point to the fact that it's been a very long time indeed since any 'experts' have been involved in anything to do with the roads in and around Stafford. How hard can anticipating these things and joining the dots be by supposed planning experts, assuming some were employed on this multi million pound project?
I can't see how they could have made it any longer to be honest.
That could add interest - if people using the centre lane want to go to Halfords and people using the current filter lane want to go to Lidl. (If the bit down to the Lidl/Halfords junction is two-lane, that is)As the traffic increases they could alter the light sequence so that the centre lane could be straight on or right

Anyway, the reality is that the 'user experience' is not a long way up the list of criteria that matters to 'them'.
There is and will continue to be a lot of foot traffic that has to be catered for, at all, of these junctions.
So as pedestrians are now higher up the list of priority’s…….. ?
