Indian food in Stafford

That puts me off for a starter as BYO keeps the cost down and makes eating out possible for us........

We went in the other night and 'as we're regulars' they let us have the special offer of 4 courses for £10.95 which really brought the prices down. (I wouldn't call four visits in two years regular but who am I to complain?)
Poppadoms, starter, main and rice or a naan in there, so the bloke and I shared a rice and naan between us. The only restriction was that any fish or prawn meal added £4 to the overall bill but apart from that we had the choice of the menu- some of the mains alone cost as much as the entire deal.

I don't know if it's an offer they do for everyone, I don't recall seeing it advertised, but it's things like that and the fact that they always know us that makes me love the place.

I had a takeaway from Shuma Balti on Common Road last night. It's been a couple of years since I last went there, but I was really disappointed. Has anyone had good experiences recently, was it just a one off? Unfortunately there isn't really another takeaway in walking distance at my end of town...

Have been strongly recommended The Royal Tandoori opposite Halfrauds. Anyone able to back this up?

I'm surprised that there hasn't been more reviews of Karma II. I've been three times now and every time have received excellent service and food.

Perhaps it's the lack of delivery take-away that lets them down in the popularity stakes.

Ps. The best take-away in town has got to be Nishads.
Just been to Karma. Excellent!! Having eaten in all indian restaurants in Stafford and having lived in Southall down south amongst Asians, I can say that these guys know what they are doing. For me this is the one everytime I want to eat Asian food now. Brilliant! You must pay a visit to decide foryourselves. Thank you ShmayJay.

You're welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I just know so many people who either don't know Karma is there or know but have never bothered to go that I thought it was time to spread the word.

I also realised the other day that that special offer I was on about (4 courses for £10.95) is included on a voucher they sent round with posted menus- so if anyone is planning on going, it's worth seeing if you've had a menu delivered lately that you haven't noticed.

... no, I don't work for them!

hmm, high praise indeed.. i've just booked malabar for a party of 17 for my birthday, now i'm wondering if i should have taken a chance on these karma lot!

what's it like inside? is it suitable for a sit-down meal (e.g. like malabar) or is it just a couple of rickety chairs in a cafe (e.g. like dilshad's lol)?

Its really nice inside. Mostly white decor with some blue lighting and white cloth on tables etc. Rather classy I thought. I was pleasantly suprised to be honest.

i get the impression from your previous post that the food is more "authentic indian" than the "brit indian" stuff we are used to.. would you say that's correct? i'm just wary about bringing such a large group there, in case some are a bit picky (i.e. me lol)..

what are the prices like? compared to malabar, for example?

like tek, would defo be interested in an online menu.. i think i've got a paper one at home, so i'll try and remember to photograph it and upload it later if there isn't an online one..

completely agree.. i've never had a bad meal at malabar, certainly, but like you say the food isn't quite on par with (for example) dilshad's.. however, malabar is the only place i know that is a proper restaurant, hence me always defaulting to there for birthdays, etc! and the atmosphere is always good, i've definitely had a great time every time i've been there..

still, i'm tempted to try this karma place :raise:

there used to be a back room at what is now karma....i remember we had a hen do there many years ago so if they still have that and arent very full, they may be able to squeeze your birthday party in. :)

I love Malabar, but I can't help feeling its not as great as it used to be. Maybe I'm more used to it, maybe Spice Delight has taken the shine off it, I dunno. Will try Karma though, when I eventually get out for another meal. Been a while!

Prices are ok £7-£9 for main meals. Only had the one dish there so far and it was very delish. The nan bread was one of the better ones. So I am only judging by my only visit tbh! However, you kind of get a feeling about a place even if you've only been once.
