Indian food in Stafford

I wouldn't normally venture out on a Friday or Saturday, when the wage-slaves are let loose, as you know - but there is a repatriation due in a few days and this seemed like the best oppotunity.

Was it an Indian pie, then? Don't want to get into more trouble, do we?...

Actually, it seems unlikely if it was a Moo Pie.

CTM (chicken tikka masala) is a standard favourite but which Stafford eaterie does the best?...........

hello all.
there is not a curry house or take away that i have not visited, but they all seem the same cubed meat that they buy ready cut up.
The sauces are bland even if you ask for them to be beefed up, ,.
But i can recommend one take away, the royal tandoori up grey friars ,the look of the place from both outside and in is not spectacular but he uses fresh meat and all sauces taste like they should do so give him a try .. cheers oh.

Hi garth goyle, welcome to Stafford Forum. :)

I'm intrigued as to how/why on earth you have formatted your post like that. You're obviously a big fan of spaces!

Also, given that a lot of Indian restaurants in Stafford get some considerable praise, it raises suspicions that your first post is claiming that they are all rubbish except for one particular one! Do you know the people at Royal Tandori, perhaps? ;)

Have any other Forumites been to the Royal Tandori? I'm quite the fan of Indian food myself, and I have to admit I have never even heard of it! Is it as good as garth goyle says? Any recommendations?

I think garth is using traditional letter style layout and as tab doesn't work spaces were the only option to achieve this look.

Garth - welcome to the forum! In future i'd suggest just typing from the left margain, don't worry about indents etc. they don't really work in a forum scenario.

Do post in other threads too, there's some right nutcases in here and if nothing else I'm sure it will amuse you :D

I went to the Royal Tandoori about 2 months ago, but wasn't that impressed to be honest. I used it loads when younger, but Spice Delight still gets my vote for a takeaway in Stafford.

How bloody right you are!! cubed boneless lean meat is stocked in freezers in abundance (nowt wrong with that) long life sauces are stored by the gallon (again ok) rice is usually prepped by the bucketload late afternoon (risky, but apply heat before serving) usually the main difference is how it's presented, now takeaways know there're dealing with hungry folk early-on and usually greedy pissheads with the munchies later in the evening, so whatever they do is fine. Sit downs are different, Nishads have installed air-con, staff are smartly dressed and have a pretty good idea how to keep the punters happy. Dilshads have a smaller menu than most and i've always found it to be fresher tasting although it's not the most comfortable gaff in town. Interestingly whenever i've been on the lash in Brum we've noticed that the best places have a considerably reduced menu (compared to the above) our favourite curry eaterie is on the Stratford Rd twixt Sparkhill and Hall Green they offer 2x chicken 2x beef 2x lamb and 6x veg dishes , needless to say the place is rammed most nights usually with 'locals'......

Garth Goyle maybe right in that most Indian restaurants are similar and certainly cater for non Asian trade. People have their favourites but compared to Balti houses in Birmingham and restaurants in Bradford there is a difference. I think the differnce is not between how good they are but how authentic they are.

Having previously lived in Birmingham I enjoyed some excellent meals from the numerous Sweet Shops ( cafes) in Soho Road. I've also eaten at a number of places in Bradford. They like it hot up there!

For pure vegitarian I've been reliably informed that Milans are very good. They have a number of restaurants.

If you want authentic Chinese food to cook yourself then a visit to Wing Yip is recommended http://www.wingyip.com/
