One thing Tek, be careful not to put your phone in aeroplane mode and then switch it off... if you do, when you switch it back on Wave Secure will lock the phone down.... obviously you can unlock it with the password but I couldn't remember the password... sorted in the end though.

The think about the d-pad making the keyboard off centre was the only bad thing that the bbc technology review mentioned as a bad point on the phone.

Speech to Text , within virtual keyboard
You can now speak in plain English instead of typing, whenever a text-entry box appears on your Android device. Simply press the microphone key on the virtual keyboard and dictate your phrase.

Animated Wallpapers and multiple home screens
This additional wallpaper option enables you to select from a number of wallpapers that can move on your home screen<s>. A selection of animated wallpapers are bundled with the software upgrade – further wallpapers are available on the Android Market.

The number of home screens you can have now also just got bigger – you can choose to have 3, 5, 7, or even 9 home screens – plenty of space for all your widgets and icons.

Facebook App and Widget
A Free Facebook App and Widget is included in this upgrade. The Application enables contact importation including Names, Profile Pics and Status into your phones’ contacts. The Widget can be place on one of your home screens to stream live updates from your Facebook account.

Google Maps Updates
Personalized suggestions: Google Maps on your Android device suggests (autocompletes) locations based on your personal search history on maps.google.com

Sync with desktop: synchronizes starred items between Google Maps on your Android device and maps.google.com. Sync and personalized features require a user to be logged in to myGoogle account while on maps.google.com

Multi touch is now also enabled within Google Maps.

Help: A new Help Center app is included that provides mobile access to your user guide, video tours of key features, tips and tricks, and FAQs to help you get the most from your device.

Bluetooth support : support for Bluetooth headset multi function for initiating voice calls

Security: Prevents unauthorized pattern lock bypass, allows for PIN security and local device wipe following PIN error input

Music Player : Album art 3D gallery view supported in landscape orientation

Battery life: ongoing battery life optimization

Email account removal: Improvements to manual removal of email accounts

On the hero do you get different wallpaper for each home screen? Mine kind of slides across, which with only 3 screens is fine. If I went to the full 9 screens with this update I'm not sure it will though, is there a way to set different screens to have different wallpapers?

no you get one which slides alone a little. I am yet to make an image that I have added look right yet though, I have given up

Is the official update out yet? Where did you get yours? I tried a cracked 2.1 rom and bricked my hero (again).

I got the MoDaCo rom.... its the official rom with some tweaks.

I'm back again... just upgraded my Hero to 2.2 Froyo.... WOW it is fast so far....

Wonder if an official 2.2 will ever come out for hero (or even official 2.1)?

Regardless this 2.2 rom is customised too and looks amazing.

Anyone else tried it?

the gf's t-mobile G2 (i.e. htc hero running 1.5) updated to 2.1 OTA over the weekend.. she's happy with it so far, but a few bits 'n' bobs are missing - live wallpapers, facebook sync didn't work for ages, etc..

for the most part though, she seems happy enough

Ah thats interesting DB, mine (was) is also a G2 so I would finally have got 2.1 officially this weekend then... i'm not sorry I didn't wait to be honest.

RE: Live Wallpapers - I did read somewhere earlier that the Hero would never support them (presumably too slow processor) and I didn't have them in my custom 2.1 but just checked and I have them in this 2.2 rom. Not that bothered about it if i'm honest though.

Yes Facebook sync takes ages to work itself out doesn't it.

I'm still on 2.1, apparently Motorola are dragging their feet giving us 2.2

Also, my phone is a lot slower than it used to be. Any ideas? Would removing apps help? There isn't much running to be honest, can I just do a reinstall like windoze?

yeah, didn't work for her at all to start with, but it just magically sync'ed all her shit last night without her even doing anything!

no, but i used mine for the first time on a trip to cleethorpes a couple of weekends ago and it worked brilliantly, right down to a few metres!
