I do, in fact, agree completely, but there is something strangely uplifting his his level of self-belief and he is probably only conning people who want to be conned.

That was your post number 666 and you used it to abuse the occult!

I believe it was Jervis. I used to go in for sweets and toys when I as a very small child.

I remember going in there after the Odeon 'Saturday club'. They sold everything.

That's another thing, the Odeon 'Saturday club'. I think it ran from 9 to 12.30. In the interval they would have a dance competition and a few were picked to go on stage (it was always the cute kid who won). They would throw out loads of sweets and you would have the chance to win cinema tickets ( I won some to go and see the Poseidon adventure and the Three Musketeers). Flash Gordon, Mighty Mouse, and a serialised programme, then interval then the main CFF film. I am still friends now with people that I met at the Saturday club, (I can't beleive I'm saying this) 36 years ago.

Anyone else remember 'Rags and Tatters' in that yard down the side alley near the Odeon? There was always an interesting array of little shops there, which have all disappeared over the years.
The record shop that was there was called Good Deals at that time and has since moved up to Wolverhampton Road and is now called Collectable Records. It is run by Tim these days as Phil lives in the States now, but returns fairly regularly. In the Bailey's Yard days there was space in the shop for a couple of pinball machines as well.

There was also B Sharp clothing - for those who cared what they looked like.
Remember it well. I got some fab original 50's silver winklepickers from there and a 60's dressing gown I loved so much I wore it til it fell apart :)

Another fun thing to do after the saturday club was to go upstairs in Bedsons as they had a tent set up which as kids we found it fantastic to go inside, ah the simple things in life.......

Peter Briggs, where Starbucks is. I always went in for my shoes, and they had a great train type sofa thing.

If you should have to go into Tesco then I would recommend staying in the food section - to avoid any potentially difficult encounters.

When I read that I heard it in the voice of that annoying woman on the Sainsbury's self-checkouts - 'unidentified object in the bagging area'.
