Like you, I have little interest in sport. Therefore, until this furore I had no idea who Andy Gray or Richard Keys were. Indeed, I probably still would not recognise them if I saw them. Therefore, it was not very helpful to have a post such as:Jenksie said:To Admin I say - You were wrong to put this in 'Sports and Activities' I was correct in it being a much bigger topic and many will not have clocked it - I rarely look in S&A and a few posters will have missed out.
How on earth was I (or anyone else) to know to whom you were referring with a thread title like "Slaphead Jock Nogger Moron"?Jenksie said:I thought this sort of stuff had ended with Racist Ron.
The Daily Mail are putting up a feeble defence -(much like Wolves).
It's just Banter? Can't they take a Joke?
The Female in question made a dam fine call in the Game.
Sack Andy Gray now.
If I did the same at work I'd get dismissed.
You didn't provide a link or any kind of reference to the Daily Mail article you mention. You didn't quote any of the banter that you mention. You didn't specify "the female in question" that you mention. There was literally no way I could decipher the subject of the thread, unless I was somehow privy to your own particular brand of vernacular or happened to know exactly what was going on in your head at the time of posting!
Perhaps when you made the post, but the nature of news means that that may not have been the case a few hours (or even minutes) later. Again, without any kind of reference or information, how on earth was I or anyone expected to know to what you were referring?Jenksie said:It was Top story on Google News when I posted - above the Yates Murder, Irish crisis, Phone Hacking and the Chilcott inquiry. Every news bulletin on every station has carried it!
I moved the post based on the fact that the only information I was provided with was from Gramaisc, which linked to a story on BBC Sport, about 2 sports presenters, commenting on a sportsperson, on a sports channel.Jenksie said:I suppose it is 'Sport' - but it asks bigger questions and that's why we have the reaction we do.
I agree that there are bigger questions surrounding it. It is a shame that you did not ask them in the original post, and make the subject clearer to encourage more people (such as people like you and I who may not check the Sports & Activities forum) to join in the discussion.
I completely agree, which is why I try to censor/moderate The Forum as little as possible. Like you say, you're all a good bunch at heart, and even when things get a little out of hand it is very often resolved with a few red faces and apologies.Jenksie said:My composition of an earliar post was deliberate - we are all entitled to voice opinions and being a hihgly intelligent Liberal minded bunch can be trusted to keep each other in check
Most definitely, and I have had the police contact me with regards to content on The Forum more than once, so believe me no-one is more aware of this than I! However, someone voicing their opinion is not illegal.Jenksie said:...but there are still limits and if anyone here does stray into those dark areas of Race Hate etc we are all answerable to the laws of the land.
