Cheers shoes, have a skill point as you seem to have misplaced yours :)

Had forgotton about the MyCult incident, but to be fair he was a bit of a wuss with hot food. Not done a chilli for a while, and now I think about it I may still have one left at the back of the freezer. Mmmm, chilli.

EDIT: Did you ever try the chilli lasagne?

Cheers dude!

Now we have a propper kitchen you'll have to bring the wife and kids o'er for a meal. Once we have a dining table that is!

Never tried the lasagne but sounds pretty delicious!

Sweet, sounds like a plan! Got a decent one at the new place too (15'8" x 9'0"), so will hopefully start cooking again. I'll have to, I'll be too skint to eat healthily ;)

EDIT: Who else gave you a skill point then? You were on 0 when I looked!

I'm sorry, but you can't expect the same level of lifestyle as someone that pays their own way.
I'm not asking for the same lifestyle, I'm asking for the same basic rights.

Well firstly, I know quite a lot of people who would disagree with you. For example, every single person at the place I do my voluntary work. I have actually received a gift of chocolates as a reward for my hard work.

tek-monkey said:
Why do I even let you get me worked up? Oh yeah, cos I hate takers with no give.
You don't know what I give, and I only take what I am entitled to by law - no more, no less.

I can see her argument: healthy food is more expensive and it costs to go to a gym
I've heard this argument before and I can't belive it's true.
Asda/Tesco own brand cheapo crisps = 47p approx.
Asda/Tesco own brand cheapo pot noodle = 24p approx.
Decent loaf of bread = 80p+ approx.
I could provide more examples if you wish.

Rikki said:
I would just like to point out this is not an attack on you for all I know you may do lots of things like that and unhealthy food may be cheaper. Personally though I suspect it's not but rather just alot easier.
Quite possibly, so when I am not doing too well I buy all the crap instead because I don't have the will power of energy to cook.

Also everyone needs to get an allotment under £20 a year and even in my first year of no where near full productivity I've got more fruit and veg than I can eat.
I agree, but they are not always available and they require quite a bit of consistent effort and knowledge (as well as garden tools) to be productive. There are people for whom this isn't an option.

Well I'm sick of all this "sponger" dissing anyway.

It's all those foreigners you should be slagging off, I was born here so I have a god-given right to sponge off the British "benefits" system and there's nothing you can do about it. I have had someone who was going on about foreigners tell me that I'm allowed to milk the system because I was born here so there. Of course, I think they're full of shit - I thought they were taking all of our jobs instead, LOL...

Anyway, all I have to say on this whole issue is: who fooking cares? You get on with your life, I'll get on with mine. The queen gets far more taxpayers' money than I do and the banks have sucked up more government funding than the "spongers" have. Besides, by getting a job I would be depriving some poor soul who just got made redundant, probably with a mortgage and kids to look after, and I just couldn't live with myself if I took their job.
Lunar, I am quoting the above post in its entirety, as this is the exact moment that the thread took a turn for the worse. I am not referring to the first part of your post, so please don't accuse me of taking you out of context - I realise that first bit about the conversation you had is a joke and that is not what I am referring to.

Prior to this post, the thread had been a lively debate about the article in the original post. You made a post giving your point of view (see here) where you compared it to your personal situation. There is nothing wrong with this, and even though some of the more vocal members of The Forum would normally turn on you for it they recognised that there is a difference of opinion here and there was no point retreading old ground.

However, you insisted on making this thread about you (have a look at how often "I" appears) by making the above post. You haven't once mentioned the woman in the original article. You have gone from comparing your situations (completely valid and useful) to making this about how you feel hard done by. You cannot accuse people of "ganging up" on you if you deliberately turn the focus to yourself!

Lunar is not the only one behaving badly here. I would ask that you all draw a line under this, and continue to discuss the original subject matter in this thread.

Thanks, love you all :D
Maybe I'm a little bit self-obsessed... All I am going to say is that I felt it was about me as soon as the jesting about not alerting shoes took place, and as I have been identified as a "sponger" I feel that an insult to other "spongers" is an insult to me.

If you want it, you can have our £1000 worth of table and chairs for £750. Good condition - hardly been used, includes detachable yellow seat cushions for all four chairs. Pine coloured, modern design, measures 90cm(36in) x 62cm(25in) or 124cm(50in) when opened out fully. I'll have to check with my dad first though.

The examples you give aren't really meals and you would have to eat so many of them to fill yourself up cookings surely still going to work out cheaper. Nuke a potato and cover it in value baked beans and your probably talking about the same as a pot noodle with not much more effort. Not exactly michelin star but gets the job done.

Growing your own can be alot of work but it dosent have to be as for knowledge its not really that complicated and if in doubt google it. I personally think If more people were taught at a young age about it we wouldn't hear as many stories like this one. Actually I think cooking and basic gardening should be compulsory in schools.

I agree, but it still isn't the case that it would be suitable for everyone so you have to bear that in mind.

I actually think it's an option open to everyone on some scale. Even if it's just a few pots or a growbag.

It is actually amazing how easy some stuff is to grow, if only the damn slugs and snails would let me eat some once in a while...

The chili lasagna was mine damn it! I made it for you all to eat while you watched feed. Good times :D Yummy Yummy Yummy I got love in my Tummy - opening scene from Feed if i remember rightly. Messed up stuff. That was the same night Turnip came round and you told him we were watching fat-porn while we ate. Then he left. Quickly. Looking mortified. Good Times :D

And you could say I'm a wuss when it comes to spicy food; or you could say you and moose have faces made out of DARK-MATTER!

Apparently, spent coffee grounds keep all the slugs away. So drink more ground coffee?

Ah yes, what a fine film. And an excellent setting, MyCultmade a point of cooking fora load of us then happens to stick it on as we start to chomp :D

I am actually eating one of my chillies as I type this, my GF found one in the freezer. This one is a medium smoky heat, meaning it could self ignite if left unnatended. Mmmmmmm, chilli.

Wife Pot?
