Also supposed to be doing work on the RedHill island to "Upgrade to Redhill Roundabout and all approaches" 13 Sep 2021 08:00 - 31 Mar 2023 18:00
Is that to accommodate turning Beaconside into dual carriageway?

Partly, it's also to increase capacity of the roundabout itself from 2 lanes to three and install traffic lights on all approaches.

That'll improve the traffic flow, more traffic lights.

Can't believe the roadworks at the Redhill Industrial Park - installation of some metal poles for more traffic lights & laying down some Tarmac to create a right hand turn lane - is STILL going on, despite the fact it should have finished last weekend (and Dec before that & Nov before then). Is this so they can ease us into the new roadworks for the Pets at Home roundabout, continually without a break? So we're accustomed to them?

Enjoying a drop of red.
So we're accustomed to them?
Anyone with even the most infrequent contact with Stafford will be more than accustomed to the seemingly endless roadworks we get here.

For some reason Queensway is down to one lane, yet again. Why? Nothing seems to be being done apart from blokes sitting in vans, on their mobile phones. Was the traffic flowing too freely so the powers that be felt Something Must Be Done About It?

Temporary lights towards the top of Radford bank and therefore causing congestion far back towards Cannock and from the Hough. Unsure how long they are there for but worth noting if you have to do something time critical that involves a car.

There were also temporary traffic lights on the A449 just north of Penkridge this morning which was causing fairly lengthy queues.

Advanced warning. National Highways have sent letters to a lot of the houses in Penkridge warning of work on the M6 southbound between J13 & J12 from 17th Feb to the end of March. They are cutting down some trees and shrubs on the embankments, replacing them with native trees & shrubs and planting native bulbs. This will include lane closures, presumably the inside lane unless they are taking rewilding very seriously. Looking to integrate with surrounding woodland, good if it is done properly.

A road scheme to create a roundabout to provide access to a business development which will bring 750 jobs to Stafford will start this weekend.

Commercial property developer Stoford is building a 670,000sq ft storage and distribution centre at Stafford North Business Park, off the A34.
It is being carried out on behalf of Pets at Home with the new development expected to employ over 750 people when it opens later this year.
Stoford is funding the construction of the new roundabout on the A34, north of Redhill, to provide access to the development and boost traffic flow.
The scheme will take 18 months to complete and is due to start on Sunday, as chiefs said traffic flow in both directions will be maintained for most of the works.
But they said some overnight closures will be necessary, with the first being on Sunday in both directions between Yarley Lane and the roundabout from 8pm until 6am.
The second will be on the same stretch of road on February 28 with access to properties maintained. Further overnight closures will be announced closer to the time, chiefs say.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said: "This is a significant business development which will bring hundreds of jobs to Staffordshire. It is in a prime location with excellent connectivity on the A34 and close to the M6 J14.

"This will be a major road project but vital in providing adequate access to the development and maintaining good traffic flow to traffic on the A34.
"We understand that this follows on quickly from the junction scheme south of this site for the new housing development and would again thank people for their patience while work is carried out.
"The company is keen to move forward with the scheme as soon as possible so it can be operational at the earliest opportunity."

While the scheme is being carried out, traffic management will include a lowered temporary speed limit. Whitgreave Lane will be closed at its junction with the A34 from March 24 for seven months – a reduction of seven months on the original scheme plans.
From October this year, until the end of May 2023, the lane will reopen with left in/left out restrictions using the A34 northbound lanes only. Lane closures will be necessary and a contraflow system put in place for approximately 12 months.
Bus stops at Redhill Farm and Whitgreave Lane will not be operational during the scheme, though pedestrian access along the A34 will be maintained throughout.
People will be able to find out the latest information by visiting staffordshire.gov.uk/a34stoneroad.

Just been up to the hospital so the wife can have her PCR test... Driving out, got to the junction on red, switched to green and slowly came out as our car has an issue with the flywheel. A Peugeot 3008 came flying down Weston road, through the red light with the female driver applying lip gloss... Staggering really, this wasn't an amber gambler in any way
If I had be driving normally there would have been a crash for sure...I wish I had a dashcam!!!

"On its website, National Highways said: "The M6 in Staffordshire is closed northbound between J14 (Stafford) and J15 (Stoke-on-Trent).
Due to the nature of the incident, the road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra time for your journey. "
Road users are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbols on road signs.

  • Exit the M6 at J14 and take the exit onto the A34 northbound
  • Continue along the A43 to the junction with the A500 at Hanford
Take the exit onto the A500 westbound and re-join the M6 at J15"

I thought the A43 is between Oxfordshire and Lincolnshire.

Talking of traffic. I saw this down the A513 road to Milford. Sensors installed under the road and some box. What's it for, checking traffic volume?

I do recall reading that our county council mooted the idea of congestion charging…
Probably, also speed...
when I used to commute into Birmingham the A34 from the M6 to Perry Barr had a multitude of traffic light junctions. The amount of times lights would change against approaching traffic and favour empty side roads was maddening.

Probably as maddening as most of the pedestrian crossings in Stafford where the lights only change when there is a big enough break in traffic. The new ones at the end of the lines on the new Doxey Road make pedestrian wait a significant amount of time so as not to stop traffic flow. I mean what's the point. If I have to wait until there is no traffic before the lights change then might as well do away with them altogether.
