Yes Cookie, I can confirm, that even at this advanced age, I can remember your mum with child! I think that is when my crush was ..... well ...... crushed!!!

I was absolutley awful at French and its is a testament to her skills, (or maybe my testosterone) that I scraped a D (fail) at 'O' Level, unclassified was all my abilities merited. In fact I still regard that as my most amazing exam result despite going on to further education!

Did you know Peter Foulkes? RE teacher, inspirational man!

oakridge reprazent :slayer:
I was reading the Express and Star or something last night, and we now have proof that Oakridge Primary School in indeed one of the best schools in the Ford, if not the WORLD!. They had an OFSTED report recently, with the word oustanding appearing all over the place. The school achieved Grade 1 (Outstanding) in all but one area, which was the attendance of learners, and was scored Grade 2 (Good).

Sweet!

twenty years later though bredren!
Back in our day they didn't have the same process of assessment, but i'm sure if they had done then it would have got just as good results. Maybe a 3 in attendance ;)

My ma taught at Oakridge for years, which is what's made it so bloody good! (Oh, and my old man's an OFSTED Inspector, so there may have been some bribery along the way too :ninja:)

Mr Foulkes was one of those inspirational people you didn't really "get" till you were in 6th form. Inveterate storyteller (can you guess why i liked him) who could be steered onto another subject, easier than Stafford Planners rubber stamp another set of traffic lights.

Former vicar, and ice hockey player with a passion for latin, literature, talking, shouting, and fags, but not necessarily in that order! Definitely old school! Would have resigned in the current results obsessed climate; the irony being that he got the most successful 'A' Level results in my year. Not by filling us full of exam passing facts, but by actually inspiring us, giving us all a thirst to find stuff out, and above all by making us think for ourself and giving us the ability to develop a cogent arguement.

If it hadn't have been for him I wouldn't have gone to University its as simple as that.

Sadly missed now, cancer got him, it was the fags no doubt.

Its weird how you view teachers isn't it? When you get older they suddenly become human, and when you have left, and you meet them they are just totally different people!

This last comment will probably pass you by Cookie! BTW your mum may not share my rose coloured view of Mr Foulkes, he was an aquired taste, and could be a cantankerous old beggar I imagine, but when you see those adverts for teaching on Telly I always think of him! Your mum inspired me in different ways ..... but I said I wasn't going to talk about that again didn't I.

hmmm, being as both the folks were teachers and all their mates were, it was just always really wierd.

my dad used to teach at walton until i was born...but by the time i got there, most of my folks bestest buddies were teachers from there. id grown up on first name terms and seeing them worse for wear at dinner parties and then suddenly i was thrown into an environment where i was being taught by them.

to be fair though, i normally played up more for those that didnt know my dad, i didnt want to take the piss out those that did.

i spoke to my mum last night and told her about your school boy crush, i could hear the blushing down the phone and i could tell she was really flattered. i told her i was well proud my mum was a sexy lady in her prime and she told me to shut up....although i have to cough that she said she couldnt remember who her pupils were that far back, so your secret is safe ;)

ultraSBM, i also spoke to my mum about you. although i couldnt remember your first name (there were so many in that pm!) but she said she does remember your family.

Any St Paul's kids out there? Has it been demolished yet? They were supposed to build a new one when I was there - in 1989!

Shit, I'm so old.

Yes! I do remember it, I only ever got it the once, and I never put a foot out of line after that :D

I ended up being pretty close to him, in my last two years, had a lot of respect for the bloke.

What teachers did you have?

I had:

Yr 1: Mrs Cook
Yr 2: Mrs Williams
Yr 3: Mrs McOwan (whose husband owned the opticians on Bridge Street!)
Yr 4: Mrs Oldbury (ooh, she was a cow!)
Yr 5/6: Mr Butlin (legend!)

Retrojoe, Your memory is good, now your asking?

Yr 1: Mrs Cook (she asked me what i wanted to be when i grow up, i said Donkey!! My first school memory! I still haven't quite got there yet! Some might disagree!)
Yr 2: Absolutely no idea, my memory is worse than i thought!
Yr 3: Again, no idea, rubbish!!
Yr 4: Yes, Oldbury lady: v scary!
Yr 5: Would that have been Mr Hawthorn maybe?
Yr 6: Mr James himself i think (i remember him circling around the class singing 'blotting paper under hand' during handwriting lessons! Random!
and there was a Mrs Millet in there somewhere!

Retrojoe! I know you too. You were friends with my sister at school. I remember you coming round for tea! I just talked to her, she says hi!

Mr Hawthron does ring a slight bell, he might've left when I was in Year 2 or 3.

Ah, Mrs Millet! She shared yr 2 with Mrs Williams...and we were really close.

When I emigrated to Australia, she came around to my Nan's flat, gave me a present and cried when she left! Bless her.

You know me! Please divulge - I need clues :D

xx
